What got me thinking of this was yesterday while scrolling through X I see this known one about Atlanta being closer to Canada than southern tip of Florida…but the comments kinda had me learning and checking because I couldn’t believe/picture it

* The closest state in the US to Africa is Maine

* 70% of Canadian residents live south of Seattle

* All of South America is EAST of Michigan….can be said about Cambridge Ohio as well.

And the one is just assumed was trolling….. the northern most point of Brazil is closer to Canada than it is southern Braxil

I love maps.

Reminder….I’m a retired teacher of Social Studies.

Maps

I was thinking just today of how I should have pushed for a class to just study and learn about maps.

OK.  For starters, do you know about the near war between Michigan and Ohio?

Do you know about the piece of Minnesota that sticks into Canada?

There is also a town in Washington that cannot be reached by car from the United States. You can only get to it by ferry in the US or drive into it from Canada.

Yes, that’s another very interesting oddity.

My niece is moving there later this year. I cannot, for the life of me, fathom why.

I always said this was Ohio's first loss to Michigan because we ended up with Toledo.

Between Grayling and Gaylord Michigan is the 45th parallel. Halfway to the Equator and North Pole. Obviously that is just match, but it's something I always found fascinating.
