Back when I was into bodybuilding, yes. I also measured arms, chest, thighs, waist, etc to guage my progress when I was doing the two rounds of P90X.
was? This sounds past tense.
I still work out six days a week but have tweeked it considerably. I won't be doing any more full rounds of P90X because I can't see the long-term sustainability of the program. I think a person may be able to do 2-3 rounds but then burnout sets in. The body wasn't made for that long-term torque/impact from the plyo, imo. There's a reason (besides obviously money) that Beachbody is constantly coming out with new dvd's (P90X...then P90X Plus...then Insanity, etc) all of the time...the chance that the workout will get stale.
I still use P90X principles and some of the dvd's (Interval X+, Kenpo/Cardio X+...along with adding some Insanity dvd's in the future).
Don't take this in that I don't think that P90X isn't an awesome program, because it is. There's a reason it's called P "NINETY" X. It was designed for people in decent shape to do for NINETY days, get themselves in the BEST shape possible, and then move on.
Right now I train mega-heavy two days per week, walk long distances 3x's per week, do a couple of the P90X dvd's for more intense cardio 2x's per week and run sprints every 7-10 days.
I've modified my eating to more of a caveman approach (high protein, omega-3's, fruits/veggies, various nuts (almonds, cashews, walnuts, etc) with NO grains/sugars whatsoever). It's called the "Primal Blueprint."
Suprisingly on this low carb/high protein eating regimen my energy is through the roof and the bodyfat is shedding.
At the age of 42, short of hormone therapy, this body won't be packing on too much more "quality muscle" anytime soon. Hence the 'when I was into bodybuilding" comment. Still follow it, just no desire to compete or anything like that.
