Really though, besides a handful of very large private schools, who is considered an "elilte" team in the nation on a yearly basis?? For all the hype that Iggy, Moeller, Elder, and St X get in Ohio, Hilliard Davidson has done more recently than they have. Most of it is based on popularity, since you don't know how high school teams will be from year to year.
Simple. Woodland Hills isn't considered a national powerhouse. Regional powerhouse? Absolutely. The last time they finished a season nationally ranked was 2001/2002. If you could point me to their appearances in anyone's final Top 25 in recent years or any of the national boards where they're mentioned as such, I'll gladly check it out.
I'll gladly stipulate that it's virtually impossible to legitimately pick a national top 25 in any given year. My position on the national boards has always been that there's always a team out there that no one ever heard of that would kick the crap out of half the top 25 in any given year. Could Big Red be that team? Without question. But, until you actually schedule the games and beat teams like Bosco/Prattville/STAQ/Lakeland/Hoover or Iggy/X/Glenville/Davidson et al, I don't see how you can expect to be mentioned in the same breath as those teams.
Had you beaten Inkster for example, and Iggy hadn't just finished completely stomping a mudhole in them, that would have been a win on the "elite" level. Good Counsel is in the early top 25...had you been able to make that game happen, it would have been a good one. Like it or not, that's how the game is played.
