Big Red is 1-2 vs Mooney in recent times...none of the 3 games were close, but that's how the matchups go.

And I hate to break it to you, but Canadian teams don't play 6, 7, or 9 man football, and a lot of Ohio teams have played Candian teams (we played 1 for 1 year).

You seem to know a lot about Big Red, so you must be from around here, so that even makes it more comical that you try to disparage Big Red when no other team around can sniff Big Red's jockstrap...past or present.

You are way off base on that respect opinion. Wear some identifiable Steubenville Big Red gear at locations like Myrtle Beach or Virginia Beach where there is a good cross section of population from all over and see how many good compliments about our program you get. I have experienced this first hand and was amazed at the scope of recognition; and this included many retired and active coaches.

Also, I must have missed a post because I did not read one that said we were an elite national power.
I certainly don't think so. But for our size, there aren't many programs out there any better at this point in time.

And, does anyone else remember that team from Canada that this poster speaks about?

The comment about a team having to learn to play with 11 players on the field at the same time is true and you know it is because you know everything about Big Red football and i am not being sarcastic when i say that because you seem very dedicated and very knowledgable about Big Red football and I may have had the location of the team wrong but it is true because i can remember reno saying in the paper and the news that they were a tuff opponent and they would have to adjust to playing 11 vs 11 on the field because the league they played in was 7 vs 7 or 9 vs 9 but they were league champs and would be very tuff to opponent.

I do think Big Red is a good team but not an elite or national power like some people seem to thing on here but if that gets some of you thru the day before real life takes hold you should run with it.

Gateway and Bethel Park have both received national attention in the past few years and WH dropped both of them... Bethel Park twice and Gateway badly.

On a sidebar...you can talk about "domination" until the cows come home, but the scores were 13-0 and 13-3. Two impressive defensive performances to be sure...but "dominating?" Sorry man....not buying it. A true dominating performance shows on the scoreboard.

As far as the WH game, I'm not arguing your logic...merely pointing out the fact that although you and I probably both agree that WH is a quality win, those who rank teams on a national level would not agree...since Gateway WH failed to close the deal end ended with losses, and thus probably not give you the credit you might deserve. Could Big Red hang with the upper crust in a one-off game? Like you said, depending on the matchup...more than likely.

That being said...you can't just say it's true and expect the masses to buy in unless you actually schedule the game and win it. Heck, Iggy, X and the rest of the "elite" crew struggle to fill the schedule every season, same as you. Call 'em up.

I think it is amazing that when someone doesn't kneel down and kiss the ground that Big Red walks on that everyone gets bothered and mad but it is OK to listen to all the Big Red elite to try and convince everyone that they are the reason that football was invented and no one can compete with them.I even had a post deleted because some of the precious little Big Red fans might have been offended.

I will always say that Big Red is one of they elite teams in the valley and one of the top teams in your division in the state of Ohio but nationally you are just another high school that has a football program.

Yes, the article was about Will Robinson. But the comments about Big Red were very positive. That's why I mentioned them here.

Big Red is barely Div. III. For a school our size, we play a rugged schedule and we do very well against that schedule.

The out-of-state teams we play are not patsies. In 2005 Buffalo St. Joe's was ranked as the top team in New York despite their loss to us. In 2007 Tonawanda O'Hara came into Harding Stadium with a 26-game winning streak, mostly against Div. I teams. In both cases, the NBC TV affiliate in Buffalo requested videos of the games to show on their evening broadcasts. I know this for sure because I was the person who hooked them up with WTOV9. About ten years ago we played Baltimore Mt. St. Joseph when they had a quarterback who was about to become the all-time leading passer in Maryland history. The MSJ people were thrilled that he would break the record in Ohio where he would be seen by a lot of big-time scouts. However, Big Red completely shut down that team and the quarterback had to wait until the next week to break the record. A couple of years before that, we beat the Delaware big-school state runner-up. Then let's not forget last year. Big Red shut out the WPIAL AAAA champion on a neutral field.

This year Big Red plays three teams that made it to their respective state championship games last year, and we play at Massillon who was Div. I regional champ.

Fairwood, If you still plan on moving back to Steubenville, dont forget to bring your bullet proof vest. I read in the paper that a gunfight broke out in a popular restaurant the other night. Glad I dont live there.

No where on my shirt did it read ROLL RED ROLL So yes i was assuming he was a graduate.Or he may have seen the ODE to Big Red statue in Central Park.

Why I enjoy watching Big Red football.

A few years back, one of Big Red's playoff games was televised on a certain network. The regular announcer had a past Ohio State Quarterback as his partner. The remark was made that (quote: I have never seen another high school team run so many plays out of so many sets and formations with that many substitutions.). Both announcers agreed. To do this, takes mountains of time and effort by both the coaching staff and players.
Most schools run basic power football especially if they have the numbers to platoon and it's probably the easiest to coach with minimal time spent in the off season. Big Red ran the power game with little passing for so many years. So, Big Red fan or not, win or lose, it's worth the time to see these young men play this type of football. So, enjoy it while it lasts.
