Using this website, I was able to create a chart showing the tendencies of all 50 states based on the voting records of their senators. I found this interesting because 1) it lends some legitimacy to the idea that we are indeed a center-right country, and 2) even our most liberal states and senators are nowhere close to being the radical communists and socialists that some want to make them out to be.

Pretty accurate I'd say.

The only thing I don't like about these "tests" is that it doesn't give you much to answer to, only variables on how you answer.

Nice work. I talk on other forums one in particular has many people from all over the world they find it very funny when someone calls President Obama a liberal.

He is in the authoritarian right he is just a bit lower on the Authoritarian scale than some of the other candidates.

Which is why you can't take his test as some kind of fact. Anyone with Obama's views is definitely liberal. It doesn't matter how he answered these questions. Government takeover of health care and car companies, and his frivolous Keynesian stimulus that didn't stimulate anything except the price of gold, are decidedly liberal policies.

That is my point. Marx would be proud of Barack's seizure of various private companies and industries. Obama isn't quite as far left as Marx, but he is closer to Marx than Milton Friedman, which is not what those scores show.

He is not even in the same universe as Marx.

This is all conjecture on your part, which is fine. That's what this board is all about.

However, most people are going to trust the conclusion of the data from the "Political compass test" than your opinion. You can say that Obama is a flaming communist socialist liberal all day long...in American politics he is certainly more liberal than some. But Obama has a long way to go to be seriously compared to Karl Marx. What most Americans consider communism and what communism truly is are not even close to the same thing. This data backs me up.

If we have Socialism now, then we had socialism under George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Geroge H.W. Bush and even Ronald Reagan. I guess this means that all the Presidents we have had in the USA over the past 30 years have been "socialists". :huh: :huh:

Did I deny that? None of those presidents tried to control as much of the economy as Obama, but they were all socialists in their own way.

I don't care so much about how BHO compares to Marx or Friedman on the continuum. I just hope that this post helps people realize that there is more to political viewpoints than right or left, Republican or Democrat.

One of the best parts of the political compass is that it shows that one can agree with a politician on economic issues and disagree socially, or vice versa. We throw these labels around assuming one or the other when there is an entire continuum of political viewpoints to consider. When you automatically assume somebody doesn't like your guy on one issue, so they must agree with the other major party on all issues, that is a logical fallacy known as a false dichotomy and often leads to ad hominem arguments (another logical fallacy).

So the next time somebody criticizes your favorite politician, please don't throw "But, look what your guy used to do. You didn't complain then." back at them. Because you have no idea 1) if they actually voted for/supported that guy, 2) agreed with that guy on that issue, or 3) complained about that guy on that issue. And even if they did, that only makes them a hypocrite. Being a hypocrite does not necessarily make them wrong now.

I end up very close to my idol, Freidman. This seems pretty accurate ofr me. I'm definitely a capitalist with libertarian tendencies, but I'm fairly socially liberal and moderate about most issues.
