ND loses to mid major ODU
Georegtown loses to the NINTH best team in the MAC (was never close)
Villanova has to take Robert Morris to OT
Marquette can't put a way a team from the PAC10

These results don't represent the best conference in the country.

I didn't follow it very well in the regular season but why were they the best? I know the media favors them but was it a case of they are always good so they are the best or did they dominate other conferences in head to head? Or was it like the SEC in football, they only play each other and the media slobs on their knobs because they had success in previous years?

Right the "we beat the snot out of each other" argument. I would argue that too if the Big East played physical but I don't think they do.

I just think they're overrated.

I would say who really cares? I don't understand the obsession with the best conference in basketball. It is really irrelevant and doesn't impact anything.

Saying "so and so barely won" is an idiotic statement though. A win is a win during March Madness. 'Nova almost lost to American in the first round last year and ended up in the Final Four.

ND and Marquette haven't been that great this year anyways. Don't know what happened to Gtown. Looks like they just laid an egg, but OU played great.

It matters because too much respect for a conference results in more teams being put in than they should have. Obviously the Big East with 8 is looking like the committee fucked up.

If Marquette hits a three here then they escape with a 2-2 day and can keep running their mouth.

I was listening to Jay Bilas last nite. He made some great points about how the Big East lacks NBA players. NBA players are typically what carry many teams in the NCAA if you look at the past 10yrs. Bilas was stating that many of the Big East teams, actually don't have the number of NBA players that some of the others conferences/ teams have.
As far as conference strength...never been a big believer in how a conference does in NCAA being used as an indicator of who has the best conference.

BTW, Washington from the LOW PAC10 just beat Marquette! BE takes another shot....

The Big 10 has always pulled this card, but they play bull basketball. I actually buy that to a degree, no other conference plays Big10 style hoops, maybe a team or two here and there, but the Big 10 does on whole, play that style.

No it doesn't. It simply means the BE didn't step up and play when it mattered. It happens.

The BE has respect because they earned it. They had half of the Elite 8 last year.

Well, the Big Ten beats the shit out of one another, but the fatigue from it is not what kills them.

What kills them is non B-10 refs calling fouls on their physical play. All of their prime factors end up bench ridden in the Tournament in foul trouble.

Wow. I bought the lie. My bracket was filled with Big Least wins. Only a gift to Nova is all they have to hang their hat on. Otherwise, four upsets. I have WVU in the championship game. Oh well, there's always next year.

WRONG!! Until WV loses it doesnt. He was simply saying if Cuse got a #1 and Nova got # 2 and WV won the conference tourney. WV got screwed!! I still agree.

Just because the rest of the Big East may not look as good as we thought doesn't mean that West Virginia isn't one of the top four teams in the country. The overall strength of a conference doesn't determine how good any individual team in the conference is.

But yes, the Big East has looked awful today. I have a feeling they will leave this day out of their history books.

Agreed. WVU could still prove to be the exception to the "Big East blows ass this year in the tourney" rule.

At least let them play a game before lumping them in there.

WVU is one of the weirdest teams in the tourney. They have the ability to make the championship or lose tomorrow. Honestly never know how they are going to play.

I don't expect to see Syracuse go out anytime soon.

I wonder which conference has the most projected NBA players. Kansas and UK have the most on any team, I would think. Georgia Tech has a couple. Of course Carolina has 3 or 4 and where are they?It is an interesting theory. Michigan might have 2 and where are they??

He didn't say none, he said 3-4. I know two of them are on the Cavs roster.

Duke has had (ONE) player in their HISTORY win an NBA championship under coach K. Danny Ferry, as a reserve for San Antonio. He teaches a fundamental, team game suited for college. It works great, just doesnt prepare players for the NBA. That isnt his job either, BTW!!

The Cavs have three on their roster, but I don't think that's what he meant.

The Big Ten typically does fine in the NCAA tournament. Only the ACC has more Final Four appearances (23) since they went to 64/65 teams, and those were only by 4 different teams (mostly North Carolina and Duke) while the Big Ten has had 17 appearances by 7 different teams.
