This is funny. I don't shop at Wal-Mart (anymore) due to a horrible issue in the Bethel Rd. store like 3 years ago in which I was "mistaken" for a thief. It was legitimately a horrible dilemma on every level, on their part. I decided me not shopping there doesn't matter to them either way, but I'd feel better about it.

This isn't to say that "Wal-Mart is racist", obviously. I just thought this was a funny tie-in.

Swamp Fox wrote: To people who hate Wal-Mart for being too capitalistic, any little thing that can be turned into anti Wal-Mart propaganda is put out there. I tend to agree that someone unauthorized to do so got ahold of the store PA system and made that pronouncement as a joke. A very bad tasteless joke, but nonetheless, a joke. I will continue to patronize Sam Walton's shrine to free enterprise and capitalism. I can't understand why Conservatives hate Wal-Mart. If there was ever the perfect example of American initiative and free enterprise, I can't think of a better example than Wal-Mart. Aren't they still anti-union also? My God. It's Conservative heaven!!!!
I'm a conservative.

I don't think they are too capitalistic.

I don't hate Wal-Mart.

I don't shop there.

I would have laughed. Would not have been jealous that it wasn't me doing it, as I never would have done that. Would not have left the store. Would not stop shopping there. And I'm with Keebler... if someone said "all white people leave" it wouldn't be an issue, and we would all be laughing.

There was a movie in the early 80'scalled Delirious. It was a horror movie spoof (like the Scary Movie flicks). There was a minor character played by Garett Morris (the first black guy on SNL) who was a librarian. His line was something to the effect "It's 8pm, all white people need to leave the library".
It was a joke then as it is now. Is it in bad taste-- possible. Is it racism-- no.

In an age when everyone feels so enlightened about race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc. we really all have lost sight of what is true discrimination and what is simply an attempt at humor.

This is news? Sounds like an immature act, but not newsworthy. The fact it has created such a stir though is funny.

There's 36 choices and only 3 of them are open at any given time, so it shouldn't be too tough.

So the article mentions it could have been a fellow shopper who hijacked the PA microphone, yet people are still going to bocott the store due to this incident. What exactly do the want Wal-Mart to do to prevent this from happening in the future? Screen incoming customers? Put each and every microphone in the store on lock down? Pay an inflated sum to each person who was in the store at the time of the announcement?

While I don't believe whoever is responsible for this did the right thing I fail to see Wal-Mart's liability in this. Except they have the deep pockets.

Yeah, a bigger issue that should be had with Wal-Mart is the aforementioned fact that no matter how many employees are in the store at once, only about 3 checkouts are open at all times. On a Sunday, you might get 4 if you're lucky.

ding, ding, ding... plenty of people will line up to exploit them. Now Walmart will have to make another donation to a racial sensitivity non-profit, etc. so that they will stick up for them next time.

It was probably some black customer/employee who made the page in an attempt to get paid.

I'll never forget a football game that I attended in 1998 (I believe). It was Chaney vs. Youngstown East in a playoff game at Stambaugh Stadium. Some kid from East got ahold of a field mic and had a ball with it. He was saying...

"You can't fuck with the East side..."

"Fuck Chaney..."

etc.

No one could figure out where it was coming from. They had to stop the game to find where it was coming from as players and coaches were distracted, and players on the sidelines started getting unruly. They searched the press box, they searched inside the giant scoreboard, they searched everywhere and couldn't find the culprit.

All the while, it was raining and a brawl started in the stands. It was Chaney fans vs. East fans and it got kind of ugly. Cops were everywhere to try and break it up. People were slipping on the wet bleachers and tumbling several rows. Cops were getting flung down the stairs. It was crazy.

They wound up finding the kid who was doing it (after a good 10-15 min) and it wound up being a great game. It was the Smith brothers (Anthony and Antwaan) from Chaney, and a stud RB from East (whose name escapes me, PJ???). If I am correct, it went down to OT to settle the game.
