Another scenario:

If WVU loses, and Duke wins, OSU has no shot. (Very trivial addition to my scenarios above -- just a slight tweak -- but necessary to clear confusion here).

I honestly don't see how defeating Virginia, Miami, and GT or NC. State improves duke's resume.

If WVU wins they will have beaten two NCAA tournament teams and a team that thrashed duke.

That will probably happen, but it shouldn't. If Duke and WVU both win their respective conference tourneys, WVU should take the 4th 1 seed, however since it is Duke...they'll get the benefit of the doubt.

I agree even though I do not think Duke is more deserving than WVU. They are only more deserving than OSU because of what happened while Turner was out. (I'm not saying those games shouldn't count just that I think things would be different if he hadn't missed 6 games.) Duke will get it because they are Duke. Then get beat in the second round like always. ;) This will give WVU a great shot at the final four being the top team in their region. ( I think WVU will get the top 2 seed and be paired with Duke)

Syracuse has a great record, won the regular season title in the toughest conference in the country, and has great victories on the season (@ WVU, @ Gtown, Villanova). That's what Syracuse uses as their reasoning for being a 1 seed.

Care to explain why? If OSU and WVU both win their tourneys both of their resumes are as good or better. They both play in tougher conference. Both would have won their conference tournament. WVU would have the same amount of losses as Duke. OSU just one more (3 minus Turner which I believe will be factored in) So please tell me why you would still give it to Duke other than they are Duke and you don't like OSU?:D

Yeah but it's not like you'll hear people saying "they should be the 1 seed because they're ranked #3!"

It'll be because of the 3 reasons I put...hence, rankings are irrelevant.

If all three -- Duke, WVU and Ohio State -- win their conference tourneys, West Virginia definitely has an argument for the one, and very well could get it over Duke. If only Duke and Ohio win their tourneys, Ohio State doesn't have a strong argument against Duke, even with Turner, and Duke will get it. Duke's resume, if I'm not mistaken, from top to bottom -- SOS, RPI, top non-conference wins, etc. -- all trump OSU. At least the most important ones, in the eyes of the committee.

I'd be willing to hear your arguments, though.

They're ranked third because of that "body of work". Really, most teams in the top 8 that get ousted early from their conference tournament will get a direct benefit from that high ranking when it comes to 1 and 2 seeds.

Well it's not criteria at all. It's an opinion. I'm willing for sure to listen to your thoughts on why you think Duke is better. But just saying they are better because you said so that's no arguement. That's what I tell my kids when I don't really have a good reason. :D I would love if we could ever get actual debates around here rather than just this is my opinion and if you don't agree then blankety, blank, blank, blank.

Really you won't give me a reason because you can't. If Duke wins they are for sure worthy of a number one. Heck maybe even so if they lose. But they are not head and shoulders above the other two. They just look that way because they are Duke.

no no, it's a pretty awful reason...I think Texas should get a one seed because I think they are better than Duke! There it's my opinion and I'm right!
