Good summary Beast. Stanley played great. No one play lost this game. Only call I did not like all night was the QB sneak on 4'th & 1. Miller and Strausbuagh were running over the Cats all night and I would have handed off and taken my chance with them. Hind sight is always 20/20 but I think that was the only play the QB lined up under center so it was a bit obvious. Keep your heads up Bears!!!!!

Waynedale played one heck of a game! Credit to the Bears too! Stanley looks very impressive at QB, he made a few mistakes, but hey the kids a sophomore. Running game looks really strong and very diverse. Miller, Strausbaugh, and Stanly all carried the ball and had some good looking runs. Defense played pretty solid, just had a BIG mistake right after half and gave up a long TD run. Great call on the suprise kick right after half. That was a big momentum booster for the Bears. Tough loss, but a very intense game. IMO the Bears are way better than the record shows. Don't wanna take anything away from Norwayne though, they played a great game. Congrats to the Cats.

Made the trip down to Apple Creek tonight and it was well worth it. One hell of a game, the Bears let it slip away at the end but I have little doubt they're going to put a hurtin' on someone before its over. I was real impressed with No.85 (Miller?) for Waynedale...nice running back.

Norwayne should be happy to escape with the "W". Passing game was basically absent but Zimmerly(41) & Wallace(45?) ran tough.

Waynedales stadium is much improved since my last visit. The snack bar & BBQ area are great. (gotta love watching football with the all those wonderful aromas in the air) The only thing the place lacks is a new scoreboard. Overall, great game & facility.

Congrats to the Huskies!!!! Major upset at Dalton 24-14.

Well I guess Mr. Russell needs to re-determine his thoughts on the Smithies line play. Not sure what football you have been watching(maybe that "lingerie league" on MTV2), but I will say they played with a lot of heart.

rittman was beating chippewa 55 to 14 before rittman put their jv team in. Chippewas varsity scored twice on the jv team which made the game look alot closer than it was

very disappointing game for dalton last night - they come out again with absolutely no emotion. They have not played a good 1st quarter in 5 games (since Garaway). I am not really sure what to make of this - northwestern wasn't doing anything tricky, just simple trap plays, etc and they were springing them for big yards in a dominating first quarter. It was 21 at the end of the first I believe. Dalton was missing 3 or 4 defensive starters and maybe it took some time for the new guys to find their groove. The bulldog defense played very well in the last three quarters, they made adjustments and actually started hitting. The were able to move the ball some as well although it seems poor line play is going to continue to haunt them this season - hackett had time to throw at times due to his own two feet. They need to continue to get the ball to Lint - the kid just has great feet . Northwestern has also gotten healthy and gained some confidence - they should win most of their remaining games. Dalton has to win out to have any chance of the postseason now. Do have to comment on the interception late in the game that resulted in that huskie player taunting the dalton crowd afterwards - nice for a senior.

A final thought on last nights Nor/WD game.

Its gotta be hard for the Bears to stomach their hard luck defeat this morning...With just about 2 minutes left they were leading by 8, pretty much looking at overtime as an absolute worst case scenario.

then......touchdown, 2pt conversion, turnover, field goal.....game over.

Wes Craven couldn't have written a nightmare ending worse than the one that occurred for the Bears last night on St. Rte 250. It was truly a case of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. While Hillsdale & Norwayne are clearly the WCAL frontrunners, the Bears performance last night pretty much says they are capable of beating anyone in the league on any given night.

Yeah that was a tough one Red Rum. It does happen with youth though. QB and top three RB's are soph, soph, jr, soph. They will make mistakes but with great coaching like they have, this team has tons of upside. Best darn 0-6 team I have ever seen. If this were kids with 1 or 2 years varsity experience under their belt they are probably 4-2 or 5-1.
I see a bright future for the Bears as Dalton, NW, Hillsdale and Rittman graduate tons of experience. I was a bit surprised how easy it was to run the ball against Norwayne. I have a hunch that if Neer was healthy when NW played Norwayne that would have been a totally different game. Right now I see NW as the team with the best chance to knock off Hillsdale.

Some great games to play in the WCAL!

lots of tough luck for the bears this year, you really have to feel for them here. Football is a game of inches anyway, they've just all been in the wrong direction in waynedale country. I don't know that its clear who the front runners are in the wcl minus hillsdale at this point. Seems to be some holes in every ones game right now. After seeing who I have seen so far, the only team I feel confident wil run the table are the falcons. Everyone else outside of chippewa (and probably smithville) seems like they can beat any of the others on any given night. Past hillsdale (while, the best team in the league, honestly we don't really know how good they are as the only really good team the played, DSJ, they lost to - I realize DSJ is really good.) the WCL seems to be a deep pool of mediocrity which is too bad, as I expected more from the league this year.

If the Dogs do win out they will almost for sure make it. That does mean they will be a 6,7, or 8 seed. The Dogs need to just find a way to beat Rittman first.

1_beast;404209 wrote:lol...funny guy. Now come on!!! Everyone KNOW Waynedale graduated a Ton of talent...this might be a rough year. ;) Looks like the League is shaping up to be another race. Dalton, Northwestern, Norwayne all return depth...Smithville was on fire to end last year. Hillsdale has learned to win. Rittman has loooked to turn things around, getting a few injured guys back. Chippewa and Waynedale...the lost teams in the mix, fighting for the basement. ;)

Congrats Hillsdale. #76 is the best defensive lineman I have seen in the Wayne County League. He is a STUD.

There seem to be a ton of good skill players in the league. I would like to see maybe one of the Hillsdale linemen get the award if they win out. They are critical to play execution so lets give them some glory!

Gotta agree with you dhs.....we need to find a way to get our heads out of butts in the first half for the rest of the season. I wouldn't even think about post season play at this point...........we are overrated

He who has the best linemen win the game. This is appears to be Daltons biggest weakness right now and Hillsdale strength.

I think Hillsdale's fullback/linebacker deserves that award.

My thoughts on the Dogs as of now are like this:
We need to stop screwing around in the first quarter and move the ball. Our first offensive play of the last 2 games has set us back both times. We need to go back to what we do well and that is run the ball. What happened to running Blevins up the middle? That was working so well and we have barely done it lately. I like the way Lint is playing just the moves he put on in that TD catch shows that he is back. I liked the 2nd half last week we really played hard and did not quit. A pleasant surprise was when we put the other Miller in to play D-line. He played a pretty good half there. Hopefully our players have figured out that we need to come out with a sense of urgency. If we can do that we will be just fine this week.
