Fortunately we were warned before we netflixed it that it wasn't very good, but even with low expectations it is a bad, bad movie (can't believe Ebert liked it). It wasn't scary in the least - you know when something 'bad' is going to happen because the video slows down, the stuff that is bad isn't frightening, and each of the 3 characters appear to have IQ's of 60. I mean, come on. You capture all this stuff on tape and you don't head to the local news channel? You have all of this proof but refuse to contact the 'expert' because, well I don't know why. You can't just sleep with the lights on, or take turns sleeping, or sleep in a 24 hour public place?

I just finished watching Audition online. Not exactly scary, but a few parts were really messed up. Had to look away a couple times and one scene I literally almost threw up** (those who have seen it should know what scene that is)!

I know!!! This movie is nothing more than a gross-out film.

I refuse to watch "The Strangers" because ti could really happen. The line in the preview just freaks me out royally.

Woman: "Why are you doing this to us?"
Psycho: "Because you were home."

People either love Paranormal Activity or hate it and I have found there is no in between.

The movies that scare me the most are the ones that could really happen. Things like Nightmare on Elm Street are comedies to me, Things like "The Strangers" or something that involves nothing but normal run of the mill crazy homicidal maniacs get me every time.

I personally loved it. But I don't think it would be nearly as good at home verses a theater. That movie did creep me out for about a solid week. I don't know I find the movies that are more based in truth are always scarier. For example Friday the 13th's don't scare me too much cause I am fairly certain Jason isn't going to hunt me down. haha

I did not like Paranormal Activity, but I agree that some movies seem a hell of a lot better in the theater. I thought the Blair Witch was very good...when I saw it in the theater. I watched it on dvd when it was released and thought it was horrible...lol

The Changeling with George C. Scott is a very creepy movie with no gore at all & Carnival of Souls has a creepy ass guy who keeps popping up, while not the greatest camera work was a basis for many later horror movies. Both would be on the top of my list.

definitely agree. slashers and movies that just stuff jumping out of nowhere to scare you isnt scarey. the scarey ones are the ones that mess with your head. thats why i am glad with digital cable, when the cable goes out, it doesnt goto a white fuzzy screen like on White Noise haha.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Psycho yet. I don't think it's the scariest movie ever, but it's such an iconic film.

Except that it wasn't really based in truth at all. I've never really thought that who propaganda makes a movie scarier anyway. Seems to me that is more of a desperate attempt to make a crappily made movie seem like something different and obviously that works on some people.

I'm pretty jaded overall to horror movies because I've loved them for so long and fortunately gotten over the lifetime of spooks since I started watching when I was about four years old.

Halloween was the creepiest when I was a kid. The end of Friday the 13th was the first memorable, legitimate, holy shit moment that I remember in my life. The Exorcist can scare anyone the first time. That clown in It is totally creepy to me - I don't necessarily have a built in clown freak-ass retarded phobia, but I hate mimes so I kinda understand those who are totally freaked out by weirdos in face paint. And a buddy of mine was molested by a clown, so if you have any inclination to not trust clowns, It is probably going to scare you a little. Until, well, the end is dumb but you can see that for yourself.

Having a daughter who will be a teen in a few years, I find Last House on the Left difficult to watch without feeling some irrational sense of fear.

I always hear these Japanese movies are overwhelmingly scary, but I find them ridiculously stupid. Godzilla is much more badass than any ghost those cats have come up with. The American interpretations are even more stupid, kinda like when we had King Kong beat Godzilla (stupy ahmehrikons).

Personally I thought The Strangers wasn't very good. It was pretty scary at points and suspenseful, but very predictable.

Plus the people in the house were ratards
