Tim Tebow scored a 22 on the Wonderlic test. This is two below the average for an NFL QB. Sam Bradford scored a 36, Colt McCoy a 25, and Jimmy Clausen a 23.

The Wonderlic is the biggest joke of the pre-draft garbage IMO. If you can play, you can play. I remember when Vince Young was getting killed b/c he scored low and he looks like he is doing just fine in the NFL

The Wonderlic is the biggest joke of the pre-draft garbage IMO.
I doubt that the NFL would use the Wonderlic if it didn't serve a valid purpose. These teams are investing millions of dollars in their players and they would not use the Wonderlic as an evaluation tool if it wasn't helpful.


...By the way, here are some other interesting QB scores from over the years.

Michael Vick - 20
Marcus Vick - 11
Steve Young - 33
Drew Brees - 28
Tom Brady - 33
Chad Pennington - 25 (Remember, Pennington was once a finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship. Yikes.)
Drew Bledsoe - 37
Donovan McNabb - 14
David Garrard - 14
Dan Marino - 16
Eli Manning - 39
Jeff George - 10
Vince Young - allegedly got a 6, then retested and got a 15
Chris Leak - 8
John Elway - 30
Brett Favre - 22

But back to the 2009 class.

Also scoring well on the Wonderlic was Maryland cornerback Kevin Barnes, who scored a 41. I just wish that Rhodes Scholar winner Myron Rolle, who put the NFL on hold to go to Oxford next year, had taken the Wonderlic. He might pull a Kevin Curtis on it if he ever takes it (Curtis scored a 48). By the way, Pat McInally, a graduate of Harvard University who played wide receiver and punted for the Bengals, is the only football player to record a confirmed perfect score of 50.

Now let's get to the dumbasses. There are a lot more of those.....

Like McShay said, it only matter when a score jumps out at you like Young.

Young has played well at time but overall he hasn't blown anyone away. Plus he now has one of the best RB's in the game.

Look, I am merely saying that if you can play, you'll play in the NFL. There are dozens of guys who were some of the dumbest human beings on earth who played in the NFL. I'm sure the scouts and GM use it for the correct purposes and quantify it with other skills. It is the media who just completely blows this out of proportion.

It is the media who just completely blows this out of proportion.
Well, they've done their fair share of blowing up Tebow for the last few years. It's just another little measuring stick to gauge how well a player is going to grasp new concepts, like reading defenses. It's a more useful tool when evaluating quarterbacks than say a longsnapper or defensive end, that can't be denied.

Although I do think the wonderlic is pointless for most positions, if I were drafting a QB, I would definitely be interested in the score of the guy I was considering drafting.

It might not translate to on the field success or failure. But everyone knows that the QB of an NFL team spends more time than anyone else studying and is responsible for completely grasphing the playbook. If a test like this is a reflection of how well someone might pick up all that information, then it does hold some relevance.

Vince Young's career turned into a train wreck and he tried to off himself. He rebounded nicely for half a season last year, but I wouldn't go dismissing the wonderlic based on Vince Young of all people.

Cowherd made a great point on his show today. Those who score low at the quarterback position make alot of mistakes, or don't win Super Bowls. Ie. Brett Favre, Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, Donovan Mcnabb, Drew Bledsoe

Marino, McNabb and Favre were all around the same area as Tebow with McNabb and Marino scoring lower.

2 of the greatest QB's in NFL history had low scores on this and you see what path their careers took.

I dont know how much this test really means in the grand scheme of things.

All I know is when Tebow swims in the ocean, he circles the sharks. So no, the Wunderlic test isn't so important for a guy like that.

Bledsoe scored pretty high on his. At 37, his was well above the QB average of 24.

It's correct. I've heard of Bledsoe having high Wonderlic scores many times before.

Wasn't this guy performing surgery in 3rd world countries? I think that is the bigger issue! Who in the hell would want a below average intelligence NFL quarterback operating on them?

Maybe it was someone else that he said. But he did have a valid point - all of those guys minus Bledsoe had low wonderlic scores and none have a ring except Favre. It is a valid test for quarterbacks, showing how quickly you can think on your feet.
