Watched this live yesterday, seems like a pretty bad cheap shot. The difference between this and a lot of hits is that Savard couldn't see Cooke coming when it happened (he was out of his field of vision). I know there are a lot of Pens fans here, just wanted to hear your thoughts on it as well.

Good hit. Only cheap if intentional, and I don't think it looked intentional.

Unbiased and rarely ever watch hockey.

It was cheap, he clearly went for his head. I love his play and agitating but "Cookie Monster" could have just lowered his shoulder in to Savards shoulder and the blow would have been devastating and probably avoid a concussion for Savard. The league is going to have to make a rule about this because it's just as bad as being hit from behind in to the boards (DuPuis about a month ago), but until then, blind sided shots are going to be allowed, Cooke didn't even get a penalty for that hit, but whether he is fined or suspended is another issue.

I think the hit itself would have been fine had he gone for the body. It looked a lot to me like we went for the head. Cheap for sure, imo.

i dont exactly think it was intentional. savard did expose his head by leaning forward. if you dont protect yourself, hits like this will happen. no different that a receiver jumping to catch a pass going over the middle and getting flipped.

Cheap going for someone's head. Wish the league would stop shit like this. I'm for fighting, but there are rules to that. This is cheap and not the first incident from this individual. Make an example of him right now, as head injuries are at the forefront......

if you watch the replay in slow motion, he didnt hit his head first. he hit his shoulder.

That's about as close to the head as you can get if he didn't actually hit his head. The player was in a defenseless position and the result was a severe head injury from a very high hit. That's headhunting......

so should diving infront of pucks be outlawed too? its pretty dangerous but yet many players do it exposing themself to serious injury.

I was at the game but didn't see the hit, I was watching the puck in the corner and only saw Savard after the whistle stopped play. I saw a replay of it and while he maybe had hit the shoulder first I still say it's a dirty play (and I'm a huge Pens fan). Blindside hits near the head region should be illegal. Cooke is a repeat offender. Look for a suspension.

I was happy that all 17,000 in the building gave a standing ovation to Savard as he was taken off the ice.

the outcome can be the same, yet no one is trying to prevent players from being injured then. hockey is a dangerous sport, if you dont want to get hit hard, dont go on the ice.

Tell that to Ovechkin and Mike Richards, but it doesn't apply to them

^^^^^Don't worry, Ovechkin will get what's coming to him, someone's going to line him up one day and take him out.

I'd say the same for the Pens stars, but you know Bettman's already got a warrant out for anyone who breathes on Cindy or Jenny when they go to Boston in a few days.....

The sports radio guys are calling for Crosby's head when Pittsburgh comes up here. Those "in the know" (aka the broadcast team and writers) have said the Bruins can't and won't do it b/c of the penalties that would surely come along with it, but listening to how livid they are is kinda funny.

Laughable. Crosby can hold his own in a fight, and if someone tries to fuck with Sid or Geno they'll have to deal with; Kunitz, Kennedy, Guerin, Staal, Mike "The American Bad Ass" Rupp, Adams, Orpik, Letang, and Eaton. Yeah, the Pens can hold their own, who does Boston have outside of Chara and Lucic??????

I watched it live and I thought it was pretty cheap. My roommate was there and Cooke is her favorite player and agreed. But she's a woman so her opinion on hockey doesn't count.
