Nope. Big Ten football is better than SEC football, no doubt in my mind. But those are opinions, whereas academics are facts.

The SEC is the best conference (there, I said it), but they're not the invincible, all-world superpower that some (most) make them out to be. The Big10 has done just fine head-to-head in bowl games vs. the SEC- basically dead-even the past decade.

It seems to me that the recycling of this debate is more often initiated by Big Ten/OSU fans trying to downplay the SEC. Using this thread as an example, the OP was about a player. It took all of three posts for someone to start ragging on the SEC as a conference.

Seriously stop and think about the number of threads (btw here and the old place) that are started when 1) the SEC plays a weak OOC game, 2) an SEC team loses a game, or 3) when the Big Ten wins a big game. Now switch the conferences and compare the number of threads started by SEC fans. Its really the Big Ten inferiority complex that drags this conversation on and on.

An Ohio based board I wouldn't expect anything less, being in the heart of Big10 country and all.

jhay's point was that SEC fans are constantly seeking that ego stroke. I don't see that as the case at all. This thread had nothing to do with SEC vs. Big Ten until a Big Ten fan made it about that.

If I were to say, "ytown, you are a loser," and you responded with a list of your successes, are you looking for an ego stroke or presenting a reasonable counter my ridiculous original statement?

C'mon, it's certainly not like there hasn't been quite a few baiting threads started by SEC homers on here. I know you're not that naive to think that even when a serious thread is started about an SEC subject that there won't be posts met with skepticism regarding authenticity of intent. One is certainly equal of blame as another.

I agree about it going both ways at times. But in most cases, the mere mention of anything SEC (in this case, it was a comparison to a former player) automatically draws people into the same stupid pissing match. This thread is just one example and surely if you go back to the first couple posts you can see there was no intent to bring the Big Ten into it, but sure enough, some schlub jumps right into it by calling out the SEC. Seriously, if a person doesn't want to hear about it, why make that the topic because you know its coming when you open that door.

Well, I don't disagree. Given the time of year and how little there is to discuss, the responses to many subjects are filled with what can only be described as imaginitive. Hell, I have to admit to pulling the chains of some Michigan fans a bit, albeit just in good humor (I think they realize it). The CFF is a damn boring place this time of year, can't wait until substantive subject matter returns.

Yeah, I'll agree with that. It definitely goes both ways, and I think the "ragging the SEC" came because of who started the thread. Cats_gone_mild does more than his share of downplaying/ragging and sometimes it's just too easy to fire back.

No you wouldnt. On the LSU board their are tons of OSU posters, and people get along with them just fine. LSU fans on that site just argue within the conference, mostly Bama. I guess OSU and B10 posters are just homers with jealousy.

What is there to compare about Eddie George or Tom Brady when it comes to their college careers. George was good, but what about him is unique that makes him a point of reference? Brady didn't do anything spectacular in college. I doubt you'd get much reaction here or there with those comparisons.

Considering the Big 10 is 97-91 roughly against the almight SEC, including the bowl games that are primarily played in the south, you could easily say the SEC is jealous of the Big 10, and they have superior academics across the board.

Aside from the flaw in your numbers, SEC fans don't really care about what happened in 1900. The SEC is the best NOW and that is really all that matters to them.

See, I don't think they are the best right now even. They have 2 good teams every year, sort of like well I don't know, EVERY other conference. The facts are simple, if the SEC ever left the south to play any big games, they'd get BLOWN out. They schedule 4 patsies so they are all pretty much 4-0 going into conference play, and then snooze through 2 bowl wins against the plentiful conference bottom feeders(kentucky, arkansas, tennessee, miss state, auburn, vanderbilt, + 2-3 teams like Georgia and LSU that decide to be mediocre for that year.

Now sure, they've won the past couple of National Championships(notice I made sure the conference won it, not the teams), but when you only have to get up for 1-2 games all year its pretty easy to be fully rested and healthy for that game. I'd like to see some of these SEC teams come up north and try to win football games, because you and I both know, the SEC would get CLOWNSTOMPED if they ever crossed the mason dixie line, and you can take that to the bank.

See, there you go with "I don't think" and "if". When you have to use terms like that, there is really no argument. Most conferences do schedule a bunch of OOC patsies, the difference is that the SEC wasn't losing to the MAC and Syracuse this past season. The SEC wasn't finishing with less than half of their teams below .500.

I know it was treacherous for OSU to have to prepare for Purdue after the way the Boilermakers pounded Northern Illinois...oh wait. And Iowa simply ran into a buzzsaw at home versus that Northwestern team that got beat by the Big East bottom feeder. Oh, but the whole season Iowa was overrated anyway according to most people around here. But now the conference hangs its hat on that team's big bowl win.

So, you can have your "thoughts" and your "ifs".....and keep trying to convince everyone else in the real world.
