No one likes a quitter.LJ wrote: BTW, in giving up beer, that is in the sense of just sitting around drinking a 6 pack watching TV. If I go out I can still have a beer or 2. It's easier to say that I gave up beer, but in reality it's "lounge drinking"

I'm somewhat religious, but I don't do lent. A lot of these Catholic traditions are a bunch of bullshit IMO.

I'm Catholic and I'm not down with the theological reasons for lent (god does not care if I eat fish on Fridays in February and March IMO) but I think it can be a nice way to motivate oneself to do something good. It can be a simple as giving up something you enjoy but probably shouldn't have as much (soda, beer) but I usually try to do something that I've been meaning to do but just haven't gotten around to.namod65 wrote: I'm somewhat religious, but I don't do lent. Fish on Friday was actually created by a Pope who was in the fishing business. During the time, a way to preserve meat with salt was created and the fishing industry took a hit.
Lent is more about sacrifice, most religions have this type dogma.

I'm just saying if you're "religious" wouldn't you want to do it the way God intended fasting, I mean that makes sense logically, but whatever, bash me all you want I could care less...
