One thing that really sticks out for me is Genoa's line next year. They'll be the big and very experienced next year and they will have lots of depth in the backfield led by Dufendock. We do have some spots to iron out like QB and the secondary but the thing is despite losing alot of great players there are plenty of great athletes to fill their roles. This team really should make a nice run in the playoffs but I don't know about a state championship. Btw does anyone know who we play Week 5 yet?

If I remember correctly, and I do, a lot of people were talking Orrville last season. Not only that but they did not win the region either. If anyone should be talking it's Ottawa Glandorf. But does this mean you will be bringing nothing to this thread? Thanks for letting me know in advance.

According to the OHSAA website Genoa still has nobody assigned for week 5, but I do know it will not be Northwood again. They added Delta to their week 5 schedule. It's a shame Northwood didn't want to play us, it probably would have been a better game this year.

bwcomet - you make some very good points. I feel Genoa will win the weak SLL again and make the playoffs.Eastwood may finish second or third. Eastwood lost a very good class of Rolf, Seifert, Ruch, Hoffman, Schling, Schmeltz and Rogers. We have 3 offensive lineman back and Conner at FB. On defensive only have a couple D lineman back.
Eastwood did have a good JV team. Not sure they will be ready for varsity. I do think Eastwood will win 6 maybe 7 games and anything better would be great. Eastwood will need a great job of coaching this season. I did hear they may make some changes in offense and defense in coaching positions/coordinators.

Lots of chatter leading up to that game......but the walk back to the RV's was a quiet one for the Comet faithful.

I wouldn't listen? Or are you gererally speaking? Because I knew how good Orrville was and I knew full well it was going to be a close game. I vividly remember stating that back on that other site. I watched Rider film and saw all 11 Comet games leading up to then. Also, many of the posters that were predicting a big win by Genoa were not even from Genoa. Many were from the area that were blown out by them and thought maybe seeing Genoa going far would validate their sub-par team. I don't know. I do know many people from Orrville gloated about their stregnth of schedule and how it would ready them to win the region. That didn't win them the region either. Which leads me back to my origional point of that it takes a lot to win a region and many posters on here don't realize that. Ottawa Glandorf had been a playoff regular for the past 10 years and finally won it last year. If you're going to predict your team is going to win it, you better have some proof to back it up.

funny to get a lecture from Genoa about making false predictions.....lol.......Too early to get all riled up BW but it is fun to see a little chatter. Off season is too long...I am sure we can agree on that. Hoping you take it the right way....we would love to meet up with Genoa in the playoffs again...great environment for a football game last year and I would expect it be the same in the future between our schools.

I fancy myself one of the more intelligent Comet posters, but I suppose that would be in the eye of the beholder. My predictions are usually pretty close, and although I of course picked Genoa to win versus your Riders, I surely would have taken the Riders against gcg58's spread of 14 points lol...

I just don't like when a poster thinks their team will win just because it's their team. Sure this is a free site and you can spatter whatever you want on here, but it would be nice to see someone backup their predictions. If I may I will make a generalized prediction for what to expect from Genoa next year. I don't expect them to win region 14, but I would certainly not count them out. Their offensive and defensive lines will be experienced, and their overall defense will be stout. However, they may be lacking that "homerun hitter" that most teams have that takes them deep into the playoffs. It is likely that they will go 10-0 versus a suspect schedule, but it's not like they can just dump league games so they're stuck with what they got.

I agree that the off-season is very long, but taking a quote from someone else- I'm not ready to wish the summer away. I hope we do meet again in the playoffs because, well, that means Genoa is doing something right and are having a good season thus far. Who knows maybe I'll cross enemy lines and meet some of you fellas. No worries I won't tell anyone

Hello D4 - Region 10, just a quick update from your friends in the SBC. Not making any wild predictions here, but just a heads up for the Comets. Oak Harbor and Port Clinton are improving quickly and would certainly love to ruin that regular season unbeaten record for Genoa.
Can't wait til football season !

Port Clinton improving most certainly yes however Oak Harbor remains to be seen. Will either improve enough to beat Genoa next year? Probably not. Even with what should be a Genoa team thats a step down from the last two year's they'll still have enough to handle the redskins and rockets. Perhaps if PC didnt have three of their best players playing for Oak Harbor and basically holding Oak Harbor up they could give Genoa a run for it but cest la vie.

Also from my seat at the Orrville vs. Genoa game last season what happened was pretty simple. Orriville didnt care who Genoa was or what their record was they came right out and smacked Genoa in the mouth. They were every bit as big, strong and fast as Genoa and the comets panic'd plain and simple. Genoa learned a major lesson about Pride that night and how it can be your undoing. They say that pride comes before the fall and after watching the comets sideline behavior the previous week against Edison it was pretty clear that from the head coach on down their was too much pride and not enough humility. Thankfully Orriville had enough class and humility to not hold a line dancing clinic while their coaches looked on with approval during the game.

Genoa could hold a hoedown and blast their horns until they ran out of air and it would still have nothing to do with class. At the same time I could argue that "C" word for another two years and it wouldn't change your opinion about it. Put simply, I have seen much worse and thought little to nothing of it.

It was not a fair prediction and it was pretty naive to flaunt a spread. There is a reason spreads aren't generally made on high school games. (Except for Mr. Pasteur's, and his are mathmatically set and completely unbiased.) One because the high school level is extremely unpredictable, especially in a playoff game between two good teams, and two because it can make the said favorite look really bad when the underdog not only beats the spread but wins the game. Making a spread for your own team is like putting a giant target on your back and handing out baseball bats.

The "C" word has everything to do with what Genoa did. Class is a part of sportsmanship and good sportsmans would not hold a hoedown in plain view of their beaten opponent. Let alone do so under the approving eye of their head coach.

I won’t mention the ‘C’ word but what you’re griping about Tink I simple call kids having fun. They weren’t taunting their opponents they were having a good time with their teammates. I don't see what’s so bad about that.

As for Port Clinton and Oak Harbor being greatly improved, I hope that comes to be. I'll root for any team in this area to get better. As for it actually happening I'm a little skeptical. I've heard from Tink for years about Port Clinton's uprising but have yet to see it. To be honest I feel like football just isn't that important to the people of Port Clinton they seem content to be a basketball school. As for Oak Harbor I actually do expect them to be a little improved, Mike May is a good coach. It may have been a little hard to see the past two years but I really believe he is. I think they improved a lot last year from his first year so logically one would expect them to improve again this year.

^^^ I'd like to hear what former Genoa Coach Pinkerton thinks of all the shennigans by the Comets on the field these days. I highly doubt he approves, but then again, this is a different time.
As Tink said before, the biggest question for Oak Harbor will be the line. We don't have the usual stable of hay bale eating farmboys up front as we did in the past. Lots of skill players though, and I think Coach May will figure out a way to win with the players he has. Dont count out PC though. We got a huge dose of reality last year when they beat us rather soundly ending a 20 something year win streak for OH. We will NOT be taking them lightly again, and other teams should not as well.

Comets got their comeuppance and most outside of Genoa were glad to see it happen.

Our last 2 oppoents were OG and Genoa...night and day difference in how each team carried themselves.

I wasn't referring to the Orrville v. Genoa game. But if you want to talk about it I saw lots and heard lots from Rider players and fans that game too, it goes both ways, every town and team has those individuals who do and say dumb things. I see no point in stereotyping a whole town because of it.

I have a box of bottle rockets, if I slap a Genoa sticker on it would you consider it a grand finale kit? If so, do I have a deal for you. Comparing a team that dances to a song after a game to a team having a hoedown with their coaches as the conductors is quite a stretch. If they were pointing at the other team and singing a "we beat you" song you may have a case. Would you like to install spy cameras to make sure Genoa doesn't celebrate too much wherever they are? I'm sure Radio Shack can cut you a deal. The way I see it these kids pay to play, practice much more than the average team, and then play only the first half of the majority of the teams they play. If they want to have some fun at the expense of nobody, they can surely do it. I remember when we played Sherwood Fairview, their kickoff team would do sommersaults every time they set up to kick. Would you consider that classless celebration? Because I don't and it happened to us. A lot. Maybe because it was just something they did to have fun and it wasn't directed towards us.

Isn't Oak Harbor Region 10? Anyway, I think this year is May's make or break year. It will be his 3rd season at a place that's used to winning and used to beating Genoa. Losing 112-0 in 2 seasons to Genoa won't cut it for long. If a school suddenly changes coaches and at the same time loses all of their massive gym rats and oversized farm boys it isn't always a coincidence. Sure, one class may have bigger athletes than another, but I just watched film of Coach Q's Oak Harbor team and May's, big difference. Player development and getting them into the gym to become bigger, stronger, faster is kind of why a school pays a coach.

The way I see Port Clinton is as soon as they see themselves as a football school and not only a basketball school they will always see 5-5 as a successful season.

Yes, we are D3 now and the only reason I posted in your thread is because Genoa plays both Oak Harbor and Port Clinton as OOC games.

I am laughing at your past 2 years scores. Nice work against a brand new coach and a completely rebuilding team. Shall we tally up the Oak Harbor vs Genoa scores from the last 30 years ? Pretty sure you wouldnt like those numbers. Coach May will be fine and beating Genoa is not top priority at OH anymore. Winning the SBC and making the D3 playoffs is Coach May's goals, as they should be.
