One in particular:
The NCAA wants to get tough on taunting and make it more difficult for football players with concussions to try to tough it out.

Both proposals were announced Thursday by the Football Rules Committee and must now be approved by the Playing Rules Oversight Panel.

If passed, players who draw flags for taunting gestures on their way to a touchdown would have the penalty assessed from the spot of the foul, taking away the score. Penalties that occur in the end zone would continue to be assessed on the extra-point attempt, 2-point conversion try or ensuing kickoff.
I think the taunting rule is fine as is. If this change would occur, it could never be enforced equitably as is it too subjective and includes too many variables. Hopefully, this particular proposal is denied.

I'm torn on that taunting rule. some shit needs to stop, but most of it is okay in my book.

They're addressing a non-issue.

Rarely, if ever do you see someone going all "Prime Time" from like the 20 yard line to the end zone in college football. I cannot even think of a good example of this occurring at all.

High steppin' or jumping into the EZ could be considered taunting, which would be enforceable, both of which are marginal.

There's no room for it in the college game in any form. I'd rather see more emphasis on show boatin' after a routine tackle.

I agree.

I've seen taunting called on jumping into the end zone when it appeared obvious to me he might not have scored had he not dove in.

I have no problem if a player celebrates with a teammate after scoring a TD or making a big play. That's part of the game. The only time I have a problem is when they show up another player or have a prolonged choreographed event.
I think if they want to get serious they should flag the tool who does the victory celebration after deflecting a pass when his team is down by 3 TD's.

I also saw in the article there is discussion in banning anything written on the black eye patches (ie. Bible Verses, telephone area codes, etc.).

The NCAA is not a joke because they want to prevent players/coaches from advertising their personal beliefs.

There are plenty of beefs I have with the NCAA but not allowing crap on eye patches isn't one of them.

Rules I'd like to see enforced:
1. There will be a 2 minute warning.
2. The clock will not stop after 1st downs inside 2 minutes.
3. Short of a full team dance or throwing/kicking the ball out of play, TD celebrations are okay.
4. On a breakaway play, any celebration prior to crossing the goal line will be enforced as 15 yards from the spot. This would only be when there is no one within 5 yards of the offensive player and there is no one between him and the goal line.

i still dont understand why taunting has no place in "the college game". a little bit never hurt anyone.

and dont give me that nonsense about getting paid. plenty of people are getting paid in the NCAA

Lemme guess, if a little never hurt anyone then it's fine in high school too. Then by default, it's cool for all those 8 year olds to crotch pumpin' and chest thumpin' too right?

The Tool Rule? I like it.

I've seen several players hold the ball out behind them as a defender runs after them. This is not necessary. As other have said, a teammate celebration is okay. Also, if it was a big time score (I.e. the Washington QB this past season (or 2 seasons ago)), let them celebrate a little bit because it's football IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE EMOTIONAL!

The game has emotion in it. If that is problematic, maybe Lane Kiffin and Jim Tressel should just program 22 robots to play their season.

Not sure what Kiffin and Tressel specifically have to do with your argument but the point isn't what has been on eye patches as much as what could be on them. The issue isn't one that hasn't been addressed previously albeit in the NFL when McMahon of the Bears and Pete Rozelle had a little tiff regarding head bands and crap McMahon was putting on them. It led to the NFL banning the practice. This was in the mid eighties, probably a wee bit before your time.

It's not a non-issue as you assert, in fact it's an issue that someone gave a shit about long ago and addressed it appropriately then as it is now.

if thats the way you wish to generalize then im all for it.

i love seein little kids have fun spiking the ball in the endzone. we'll know we've made progress when they start talking on their cellphones in the endzone and driving their cars on the field.

Which means nobody will wear kneepads. Its not like many guys do nowadays anyways.... should be an equipment violation which is a 15 yard penalty but nobody enforces it
