Pride, Warren G. Harding has joined the Lake Erie Athletic League. It's a two-tiered league consisting of D-1 and D-2 schools. Last year, WGH, Boardman, Fitch, Youngstown East and Chaney made a proposal to the powers that be of the AAC to create a new top tier, only to be turned down.

I agree with you. Schools may well leave the AAC if Boardman and Fitch are accepted. If that does happen, perhaps the old Steel Valley Conference can be revived, adding small schools like Campbell, Struthers and Girard, three original members, back into the mix. How about a two or three-tier, big school, smaller school, small
school SVC?

The committee took no action regarding the applications yesterday... now the question is are they still pondering what to do regarding Boardman and Fitch, or are they just avoiding the elephant in the room because they don't have the testicular fortitude to tell them no to their faces and just plan to ignore the applications until the schools stop asking about it?

Seems so quaint doesn't it?

The cute little AAC has a successful season (lots of teams made it to post season). Now all the Big Dogs that left want to come back...I don't blame them one iota. There is some damn fine footabll played in this area and the gorges that once split the divide are not quite as wide as they once were fellas. Things are different here in te valley, problem is, the stooges that run things aren't.

It will take time, but things will change, the Catholics will find a home here and we'll all compete like we should have been doing all along. I never would have thought this in years past but the circumstances dictate it now more than ever. Hopefully in my lifetime.

Now that fitch is back, it'll be a matter of time until boardman comes back.. That'll open the gates for Mooney and Ursuline to join as well. With that happeneing, i see many schools leaving. Maybe bring back the tac 8 with a few extras?

That's the problem. Too many people don't realize that it's just a game. It really is "more than a game" but it's still just a game if that makes sense. The more part is something that every team will experience whether they win or lose--because the phrase more than a game isn't about winning or losing.

I just look at it and SMH, public school, private school, WHATEVER. All I see is a bunch of 15-18 year old kids in football pads--unless Mooney had a 30 year old playing for them that I wasn't aware of.

Everyone wants to create a 10-0 schedule. Just look at the AAC, everyone wants to be moved to the smaller division so that they have easier schedules. If you look at the Mahoning Valley teams that have had playoff success, they have played tough schedules.

So my question is this.....and it is just a question directed at everyone in general. What are you teaching your kids when you do this......you know...trying to get that 10-0 schedule rather than working for it from start to finish? What happened to earning it? You ever wonder why everyone except Mooney and Ursuline falls short once they get deep into the playoffs...say week 3? Hate those two schools all you want....their strength of schedule puts them in position to handle the tough games that late in the season.

What if you don't make the playoffs? What if your kid busts his butt only to see his team go 4-6 after ten of the roughest battles of his life? Would that make him a stronger kid on and off the field? Why have we suddenly felt like everyone must win or our poor kids may become emotionally injured and not recover from such devastation? You ever see these games now in grade school where at the end the teacher doesn't announce the winner...instead to avoid bad feelings she announces "Everyone Wins!!!!" I watched it not too long ago. Are you kidding me?

Can't wait for that kid to go for a job interview one day and be told sorry....looking for something else buddy.

This pathetic schedule to make your team look better process we now entertain has hurt this valley more than anything else. Example...what Canfield did before they were suppose to play Boardman a couple years ago. Joke. Plain and simple. Thank God we don't have it anymore where only 4 teams make it. What a travesty that would be.

Anyway....Campbell, Canfield, Salem.......teams to beat.

The "shot and a beer" dads that worked hard all day have been replaced by the soccer moms and their "everyone gets a ribbon" mentality. Much of the toughness that existed then is harder to find and in short supply. There was a time when fielding 10-12 "snot knockers" on a team was the norm...now, if you have 2-4 of them you're lucky.

At least that's how I see things have gone the last 20 years in our area. Not to say there aren't tough kids, just not as many of them.
