All they need to do is finish top 8???? They have rarely cracked even the top 25 since about 1994, let alone consistently.

and in most cases if you don't win your conference your record doesn't warrant a BCS bid. You aren't going to be good enough to contend for NC's on a year in and year out basis. For those teams not good enough, it's nice to be able to compete for a conference championships. ND fans should know full well what playing meaningless game is all about, because they've basically done for the past 15-20 years. I don't feel like looking it up, but I'm sure there have been teams that have had 3 even 4 losses and have made it to conference championship games, or were still in the race on the last game of the season. That gives players, coaches, fans something to be interested in that aren't going to win a NC. And it still gives them hope of making a BCS game. It's just my opinion, but I certainly wouldn't want Florida to be an independent.

I don't know about that, but I'm certain their seasons would have been a heck of a lot more interesting to watch for ND fans, and even non-ND fans over the past 15-20 years.

FYI, it wasn't that long ago when Florida was playing meaningless games and before Spurrier arrived they played a lot of them. These things go in cycles, it takes time to find the right coach with the right plan. ND has failed in that department one too many times, as a fan I can only hope they got it right this time with Brian Kelly.

FYI, ND was ranked a couple times last year and MANY times in the past 15 years, so again, before making an over the top statment, do some research! Definitely have to go back to the early 90's to find the best wins....but that is still in the last 20 years so let's keep it factual.

However, none of that makes up for ND's recent failures. ND hasn't been a fixture in the top 25 for some time now as they've finished the season unranked several times in the last 15 years. Brian Kelly has his work cut out for him. He is a proven winner as a Head Coach at the college level so that is obviously a good thing.

I do hope that ND and Michigan continue the rivalry in the future.

We get beat by #1 or #2 teams in the country, ND gets stomped in non-national title BCS games. Our only non-title BCS loss was against Texas and that was on a TD in the last ten seconds of the game.

When ND actually makes a title game then you may have an arguement. Until then, your comments trying to make ND sound better than OSU are worthless.

Furthermore, I wasn't "comparing" ND and OSU. Lately, there is no comparison. OSU has been head and shoulders better than ND for some time now and I openly admit that and have never denied it. My point was....if a school getting blown out in a BCS Bowl is an indication that they were "overrated," "can't run with the big dogs" and "played a powederpuff schedule" prior to that BCS Bowl game where they got blown out....then I guess we're going to apply that across the board and that has to be true for other teams who found themselves in that same position, right?
