This district has definitely beefed up it competition with Rittman coming back in as well as Richmond heights, and Cuyahoga Heights, to go along with Lutheran East, Bedford St. Peter Chanel, an improved Open Door team, and from what i have seen in the papers, a very good Dalton team.
Just looking through the papers, I have tried to come up with records to see where people might be seeded in this bracket and so far this is what I have come up with
Dalton- 13-2
Bedford St. peter Chanel- 6-7
Open Door- 9-5
Richmond Heights 12-2
Lutheran East 7-6
Rittman- 9-6
Cuyahoga Heights- 11-4
Central Christian- 1-11
Mapleton- 4-11
Kingsway- 7-8
Lake Ridge- 6-7
St. Martin DePorres- 6-7
MLK- 6-9
Elyria 1st Baptist- ?
Cornerstone- ?
I think the one thing you can't over look in this bracket, is the schedule some of these teams play.
You look at Bedford, they play a top notch schedule every year, while Dalton and Rittman both play in a league with teams that are much larger than they are as well, while you have some teams like a Kingsway, open door, and St. Martin de porres that play sister mary of the poors.
If I had to seed right now,
1. Dalton
2. Richmond heights
3. Rittman
4. Chanel
5. Cuyahoga Heights
6. Open Door
7. Lutheran East
8. MLK
9. Lake Ridge
10. St. Martin de porress
11.Kingsway
12. Mapleton
13. Central Christian
14. Elyria
15. Cornerstone
Any thoughts?

i would seed them pretty close to what you have. I think the top 7 are really the only teams that have a realistic shot at coming out (probably the top 5 actually).

agree with your seeding. dalton will be a tough out, but it seems the teams that give them the most trouble are the one's with quick guards and some of those cleveland teams are gonna have some quick players. in the end I think dalton wins because they have speed and strength not to mention they're very disciplined

Is Lutheran East and Chanel are playing a lot of big schools again? I am assuming this is why their record isn't too great.

Is there absolutely no one from Cleveland on here that can help with any of these records? I guess we need to start a public vs. private debate to bring all of these richy rich private school members out to hear about how great their school is and then maybe we can get some records.
Anyway, this is what I believe to be the updated records. Tourney draw is Sunday.
Dalton 13-2
Richmond heights 13-4
Cuyahoga Heights 13-5
Open Door 10-5
Rittman 9-6
Cornerstone 8-6
Lake Ridge Academy 8-6
Lutheran East 8-7
Kingsway 7-8
MLK 7-9
St. Martin de Porres 6-8
Chanel 6-9
Mapleton 4-11
Central Christian 1-11
Elyria 1st Baptist- MIA
I don't think this is the way the seeding will go, but this is how it stands record wise.
I still think schedule wise, Chanel has the toughest, but you cannot overlook the schedule both Dalton and Rittman play, they are the only DIV schools in their 8 team conference who does have some nice basketball schools in it. Richmond Heights has a decent schedule, while Lutheran East is kind of half and half, they either play really good teams, or really bad teams, there really isn't any in between. Cuyahoga Heights also has a decent schedule as well. As for the rest, when you see teams like HEARTS for Jesus Christ Community school on your schedule, I think you know right there what type of schedule they play, or Cleveland Vo. Tech, need I mention anymore of some of these other teams opponents
If I was seeding these teams, I would place them like so:
1. Dalton
2. Cuyahog Heights
3. Richmond heights
4. Rittman
5. Lutheran East
6. Chanel
7. Open Door
8. MLK
9. Cornerstone
10. Lake Ridge
11. Kingsway
12. St. martin De Porres
13. Mapleton
14. Central Christian
15. Elyria 1st Baptist

I haven't gotten a chance to see them (Chanel) play, I was really just basing their seeding placem, ent on common opponents, Lutheran East played Cleveland Central Catholic very tough the one time they played them while Cahnel has been blown out by 30 and then had a close one with CCC. I don't think anybody really wants to play either of them early on, both are dangerous.

Moose - I wouldn't exactly call the WCAL a basketball conference. They're much more concerned with football. I would probably place wrestling ahead as well. And the conference is a pretty even split of D3 and D4 schools, I believe 5-3. Smithville had a very nice team last year, and some put together pretty competitive squads, but - would say a SOS boost would pretty sizeable for Chanel and Lutheran East.

First of all its 6-D3 2-D4. Second basketball is more important than Wrestling to most WCAL followers. Now you may have the Dogs and Indians beat in the SOS but lets just let them play and find out.

I wasn't exactly trying to push Dalton and Rittman and their conference as one of the top bball conferences in the state, I was just trying to justify why I had them ranked as I did. DHS22p is correct, there is 6 DIII schools and 2 DIV schools. With teams like Smithville, Northwestern, and Hillsdale this year, their league is actually a tough one, and not to mention, that Dalton is sitting on top of it. Now since you brought Lutheran East into the scheduling conversation, On their schedule they have Fuchs Mizrachi, Cleveland Heritage Christian, Open Door Christian, Temple Christian, and Horizon Science not exactly the tough teams you look at on a schedule such as Chanels or either Rittman or Dalton. Not to mention Richmond Heights is also on their schedule, who might be the most overrated team in Ohio year in and year out. Bringing Rittman back into the conversation, I can remember Rittman playing a number #2 ranked Richmond heights 2006 and #3 ranked Richmond Heights 2007 (Both State rankings) in the Strongsville tournament and both times, Rittman defeating them. I am not saying Lutheran East is a bad team, but I don't think they play as tough as schedule as people make out. They did play CCC, but wasn't Grady hurt when they played them?
this tourney should be interesting, there is a lot of teams that can beat each other on any given night. ANy other predictions out there?

actually most years rittmsn is d3 as well with dalton being the only d4. And hoops are waaaaay more important to the average wcl fan. Wrestling is a distant afterthought to most.
Saying Lutheran east plays a tougher schedule is laughable - chanel, absolutely,

I believe this is the way it ended it up shaking out. I'll have to call my source again and see if this is correct. Looks like all the teams up this way (north) stuck together with the way the seeds ended up

really can't argue with this draw - any of the top three could have been no 1 without much argument. Will be a couple interesting sectional matchups - especially chanel and richmond heights who should meet in the second game. Also Lutheran east and rittman. Barring major upsets, dalton and cuyahoga heights should make it through the sectional ok. I See the district 4 as richmond heights - dalton and cuyahoga heights - rittman. Chanel with their tough schedule could definitely beat richmond heights as well. I really can't see anyone else there at the end but that's why they play the games. Does anyone know the lineups for richmond/cuyahoga as far as height, etc?

So the 1 and 2 seeds are in the same half of the bracket? 1486, was it a height reason that Dalton choose to stay in the upper half? Chanel didn't seem to be afraid to take on Richmond.

Good luck, Dalton!
Flash, here is a clip from the Daily Record this morning:
"Richmond Heights is good, but this is the best this district has been since I've been involved in it," said Dalton coach Nate Stutz. "The bottom line is that there are about eight teams who are pretty good and most of them are in the other bracket, so I like our draw, but we've still got to come and play."

i'm not sure flash - I do know that the chanel coaching staff does not think much of richmond heights and thinks they are very overrated, which is why they jumped on them quickly. I don't know about the height of cuy heights or lutheran east, open door, etc

Richmond heights does have some past success on their side, right??? Sometimes that might pump things up a bit, right? How big is this district, btw?? It seems to cover some serious territory.
And what I should have said about the WCAL - or beeb more aware of - is that my greatest experience is with a school who is generally a lower tier team who seems to be more concerned with wrestling. I shouldn't have put that on the others. And Hillsdale is D3?

Pit, I saw that he liked his draw, but he was 2nd on the bracket and didn't know everyone would go the other way. Was just wondering if he thought he matched up better athletically or height wise with Richmond heights.
