Disappointing American start in speed skating.

No one in the top 8 for the 5000m.

Yeah I was kind of puzzled when they interviewed the American skater who finished 12th and said he was extremely pleased with his finish. Said it was good going into the 500 and the 1000.

The whales on the floor looked pretty cool and realistic, but I just wasn't overly impressed with it.

I wasn't dissapointed. If you actually followed the Olympics you would have known that we didn't have any serious contenders in these long distance races. Hedricks and Davis run those just as a way to get more practice time for the shorter long track ditances. So when you go to watch the 10K speed skating don't expect to see an American in the top 10. We are better in the shorter distances (1 and 1.5K) on the long track. Ohno in the three short track events (0.5, 1, and 1.5k)

pretty embarrassing situation going on now on CNBC. In womens hockey Canada is up 9-0 midway thru the 2nd period. When does the Olympic spirit kick in and they call off the doogs?

^^^^^

All players on the bench are playing, they aren't trying to run up the score, they are just that better top to bottom on the bench. Not Canada's fault the other team can't stop them.

Ohno and JR in the 6 man final for the 1500m short track event. 3 south koreans and one japanese man round out the 6 man field. Will definitely be a good one.

Holy shit, Ohno gets bumped out, Korea going in for a sweep and 2 Koreans wreck each other.

Korea got the Gold but USA got the rest (Ohno - Silver).

This is why I voted short track speed skating as my favorite on the other thread. Nice to see the 19 y/o JR get the bronze. He will be the heir apparent to Ohno for the next couple of winter olympics on the short track.

How do moguls skiers not have bad knees? That's gotta be torture on their legs

There was one I saw during qualifying (from the US I think?) who is well into her 30's and I think they said she has had like 3 surgeries on each knee or something ridiculous.

What was with the disparity in judging scores for the same skier? The one scores were 4.3s or something and the others 1.9. What's that about?

I believe there is a different scale used on the scores for the turns (first 5 scores listed, high and low dropped) and the air (last 2 scores listed).

What are the scales? No idea, but they have to be scored differently.

EDIT: here you go http://wiki.fisski.com/index.php/Mogul_Judging_And_Scoring

There are more Candinadians coming up. Hopefully the U.S. chick stays at the top.
