The audience that the prime time NBC olympic coverage caters to wouldn't allow a 3 hour hockey game to continuously play on NBC.
Very true. What NBC wants to give you on prime-time is a combination of 3-5 events in 20-30 minute blocks. Like three speed-skating heats (w/ commercials between each 90-second race), followed by some skiing and then a bit of bobsled, for example (which I think Saturday night's coverage was). Add in a few Bob Costas' features/studio stuff. It's sort of a "we'll have a little something for everyone" line of thinking.

Airing a full 2-3 hour event that, due to the nature of the sport, can't have commercial breaks every 3 minutes, just isn't in their plans.
personally i have watched probably only a few minutes of primetime NBC because the majority of those events have already been determined by the time they show them. i also thinked they dropped the ball by not showing as many live events as they could....Judge Judy is on NBC right now.

I am really pissed off that I'm not getting these events live. I only live 150 miles from Vancouver and am in their time zone. I won't know the winner of ice dancing tonight until past midnight unless I want to spoil the moment and check it out on the web.

In Women's hockey, USA will play Canada Thursday night, 8:30pm ET for the Gold. US won 9-1 over Sweden and Canada is up 4-0 on Finland with 2:40 left. Apparently, it is a nasty rivalry, with a near fight in the last game.

Also, looks like Sweden has two OSU players on their teams.

I just turned it on NBC, what the hell? I made it a minute in and couldn't stand it.

Ok, CNBC is showing curling soon. There we go.

Is there anything worse than women's hockey? I think I would be entertained by a group of 12 year old playing hockey. Some sports are just not meant to cross over.

And how women's hockey became an Olympic sport instead of women's ski jumping is beyond me.

I'm done watching US curling. I can't even stand to look at Shuster anymore. Especially after the embarrassment that was today.

Although McCormick isn't any better for the women. She was personally responsible for giving Canada about 6 of their 9 points the other night.

i agree. i have seen just about every match and he has been horrible the whole tournament. they have an alternate, put him in and atleast give him some experience.

Edit: i stand corrected, that looks like the alternate in there now.

Yeah they put in the alternate, but took out Smith who has been one of the best on the team.

When Jonas Hiller is on, it's very, very hard to get pucks behind him.

Team USA's upset of Canada was the second-highest rated hockey game on American television history since the Miracle on Ice and nearly beat the MSNBC ratings record for Obama's 2008 election victory.

I don't know if this has already been posted but it looks like Plushenko has created his own medal....

In the men's 10,000m speed skating, a guy from the Netherlands would have won the gold by about 5 seconds, but apparently forgot to switch lanes one one lap, causing a DQ. Dude is pretty pissed at himself (obviously) and the arena is silent.

A stupid mental mistake like that is a horrible way to lose, especially when he absolutely dominated.

He made us care about figure skating. I love Plushenko. He is like a real live version of Blades of Glory.

This was 100% his coaches fault. His coach motioned for him to move to inside lane coming aoff a turn. He was supposed to go to the outside. The coach said afterwards, "This is the worst moment of my life."

Nice to finally see some snow in Vancouver. Touching moment later tonight when a Canadian skates the short track. Her mother passed away suddenly Saturday while at the Olympics.
