For everybody else, IDK what the turnover to assist ratio is.

I'm thinking it's probably on the negative side, though.

But I can't imagine at this point that he would be any better than what we have.

In the mean time, I will tell a story or two on this snowy evening.

One time, a long long time ago, I got into a "discussion" with a fellow basketball coach about who you would want to take your last shot. I said, "that's easy.........I have my number one and as a back up, my number two". He said, "Oh....I want any one of my starters to be able to take the last shot". So we agreed to disagree.

Back in the day, I had a chance, when I was the varsity assistant, to become Orrville's all-time winning percent leader with a record of 1-0. We were to go to Coventry and they were lousy. Smitty had come down with a case of strep throat. He said, "you may have to take this all on your own, as I don't think I can make it". I say, "don't worry, I got you covered" (it helped that Tommy Bolyard was on our team, along with Keith Denson and a host of other good players). So we are ready to take off on the bus, and low and be-hold, here comes the "old man". But we killed them, as usual (and I had the old man just sit back and relax while I handled the show)!

Too bad when I played Smitty never came down with some strep throat....my ears and the walls of that gym could have used a break or two along the way. Oh, how Smitty could motivate!

Max must've had a good game vs Triway, he doubled his scoring average.

Play the best players whoever they are now. In my opinion its Joey. I"M not even sure Jordan's sitting the bench all the time for varsity games. He's getting to play in reserve games and I think that's where he should be. We're going to lose a lot of players next year and Jordan will get to prove himself then.

Agreed. Joey decision making (at time) leaves a lot to be desired....but right now, he's the better option.

I like Jordan (been on his bandwagon since last year) and hope to see him running the point next year. Dress him for tourneys, get him in when you can.

The point of the comment was not intended to fully replace Joey.

Giving a player time with the Varsity would serve to help him "gel" with the rest of the team should he be needed in case of an injury as well as prepare him for next year. Being proactive!

No, Jordan is not on the bench for varsity. I think he should be, especially since Ingram seems to be unreliable.

Heard there will be a starting line up change...again. Groves will be starting over Miller, as the season began. This line up worked really well at the start of the season, so Sly wants to see if it brings that spark back. Groves has started to get his shot back too, which is great for him. Sam has been playing well too. A few turnovers the last couple games, but his quickness can help make up for those.
This last stretch is gonna be tough, but we can play good, tough ball and get the victories.

Orrville wins by 14 or so against Lex. Tight game until the 3rd and 4th Quarters when Zack Wasson takes over and scores from all points on the floor. He had a lot of help from Jake who feed him repeatedly with layup buckets. Wasson finished with 38 and many of those points were from mid range jumpers that I've only seen him take on occasion during this season. Daniel Groves helped open up the middle with some 1st half outside shooting. Avery probably had in the high twenty's himself. We played a zone and let him shoot long rangers and he made them in the first half, but didn't shoot quite as well in the 2nd half. Jake played a lot of point since Joe didn't play with a twisted ankle.

Lex plays Wooster tomorrow at Lex. If lex loses they're the odd man out and will probably be 4th. It's a long road for Lex anyway because they still have to play Senior 1 more time. Orrville needs to beat Clearfork and then beat Woo at their place later in the month. Orrville still has Madison at Mansfield.

Final was 78-64.

I actually saw Wasson practice shooting those mid range jumpers after school last week.

That was refreshing for an old guy like me to see..........instead of seeing kids screwing around and firing up 3's that would never happen in a game situation.

Adds a whole new dimension to his game. I hear he takes those in AAU. If he wants to play at a level higher than DIII he'll have to develop a Mid range shot. Saw f-ball coaches at the game tonite watching.

I really liked Jake at the point tonight. The way he sees the floor I think thats his natural position.

Jake could play the point for a smaller D1 imo. He has the ability to get to the bucket as good as anyone and can shoot from long distance as well. At 6'1" he has the size, speed and skills to play that position at the next level. He still needs to get stronger, but the right program would take care of that for him.
It is nice to see Zach move away from the bucket and hit that 10-12' jump shot. If he can consistently do that for us and remain a force in the paint as well, we will be tough to stop in the tourney.
The bottom line is we have to have guys step up like we did last night (Groves and Corbett) for us to have success in the tournement. Wasson and Jake can only carry us so far. On the other hand, we need to get Zach the ball as much as possible. Last night proved that. We found him early and often and he was knocking down shots. Jake had a "quiet" 17 and played what I think he would consider "not one of his best games". If we get them both in the 20's on the same night we are tough, but when one of them is "off" or being shut down, we are in trouble. Our bench will be the deciding factor in our tournement success.

I agree, Old Rider, I like Jake at the point and it's a very good future for him on that.

BTW, I forgot to ask you last night if your ears were still burning from memories of the "old man"!

Sloppy football errrr basketball game tonight. Jake off until the 4th qtr. then made a couple key 3's and fouls shots for the comback 58 to 53 win. We were down late by 7 , CF missed 3 of 4 fouls on a T on Sly then turned it over on the in bounds. We were still down 50 to 46 with 1:30 to go when with Jake's 3's and some key fouls shots to go on a 12 to 3 run to finish. The zebras definitely did not bring their A game, I never saw so many takedowns with no fouls called and we had 10 fouls for most of the 4th qtr so I hate to see the totals on this one. BUT STILL AN UGLY WIN and not a loss.

A win is a win!

You can ALWAYS expect a beat down when you play Clear Fork. Couple that with refs that let it go and............glad nobody got hurt!

Well, it was a classic Clearfork game. I went to a basketball game and a wrestling match broke out. Clearfork held the ball and played solid fundamentally and we let them dictate the pace until the second half when we tried to up the tempo, but our own misses and errors and no help from the stripes almost did us in. Were down by 5-6 with 1.50 to go and Jake made some threes and we hustled, plus got a fortunate call from the one competent ref (most of the night) who felt sorry for us after the previous calls. We did knock the ball out, but got the call anyway and that's what saved us. This game got out of hand after the first quarter and became a shoving match. The picture below is the last shot of the game and exemplifies this game.

plan and simple the REFS if thats what they were called tonight were not very good,and thats putting it nice.on our side if it was no blood no foul.and if orrville touched them it was called.

We play to the level of our competition... thats why this game was close.... as was northwestern and triway, 1 of which we lost.

Unfortunately, we will not fair well in the district because of that...we are not playing well (just good enough) to beat the teams we should be whooping on!.
