If there's one thing he did to improve the future of ND football, is show it's still possible to get top recruits at ND. The job looks much better now than it did when he took over 5 years ago. The media fire storm and list of candidates as possible replacements will be quite interesting.

Your hard work was appreciated Chuck, but it just wasn't good enough.

I think Charlie knows that he's gone. I wouldn't doubt if the administration has already started contacting possible candidates to inquire about their interest level.

I have been a Brian Kelly backer...but Harbaugh really opened my eyes this weekend. All I know is that Notre Dame needs to get a Head Coach to take the reigns. No more OCs or DCs making their college head coaching debut under the Golden Dome. Get someone who has proven they can win, and get them there quickly!

I don't see Shanahan jumping back into coaching at any level any time soon.

Bob Stoops' name is coming up more and more often with each passing week. I keep rooting against Oklahoma so his seat gets a little bit hotter. He's one of the most successful coaches in the country, he's from Ohio, his players win Heismans (yes, that's plural), he's a Catholic, he can draw the top recruits from all over the country, and he wins, a lot. He currently makes around $4,000,000. Only jjhuddle's alubud (whom I hope was not told about freehuddle.com) would have a problem with Notre Dame throwing five or six million at him to move him to South Bend.

Jim Harbraugh is having success at Stanford, but he's a Michigan man. I don't mind that much as I have two friends that play at UM, I'm not a huge UM hater. But, you don't think he's waiting for the Rodriguez experiment to fail? I think he is.

Brian Kelly wants the Notre Dame job. He's waiting for it. But he's not anywhere near the top of my list.

Jon Gruden would definitely be an interesting hire, but I don't want interesting experiments. I want wins, and I want a lot of them. I'm not convinced he'd be a bad hire, but I've heard he's not too fond with kissing recruits' assess to get them to sign with him. He needs like much more of an NFL strategy guy than even Weis is.

I can't see Kelly taking the Notre Dame job. Cincy has made a huge committment to giving him things he wants(indoor practice facility, among others). I could see Stoops bolting for this job. I don't think Harbaugh ends up at Michigan. From waht I've heard he burned a ton of bridges there.

Everyone who says that Brian Kelly won't leave Cincy, think again. He's rumored to have an out for the ND job in his contract.

Also, why is it hard to believe that Urban Meyer wouldn't leave Florida for ND? Think about it, Florida will win the NC again this year and Tebow will be gone. Three titles in five years makes me think there's nothing left for Meyer to accomplish at Florida and ND would offer him huge cash and a new challenge.

Other than the money, Coach Kelly would be crazy to leave Cincinnati for Notre Dame. He has it absolutely made now. Why would he go into that pressure cooker? And what if he didn't have as stellar a record at good old ND? Musical chairs again? I'm not so sure coaches around the country view the Notre Dame job as that much of a plum.

Notre Dame really just isn't as talented as a lot of Irish fans seem to think they are. This was a 3-4 loss team on paper, even with that schedule.

That shouldn't be acceptable at ND, so he should be gone, but I don't think anyone should be shocked at the way this season has gone.

Shouldn't be fired, but should have his contract restructured. He's not worth what he's making, but he's better than Willingham.

Why shouldn't Meyer leave? because eventhough he's got 3 titles in 5 years he's in one of the top talent areas for recruiting and can bring in 25 studs year in and year out; you don't rebuild(unless you're Zook and you DESTROY that program) at Florida; you reload.

I'll disagree with the talent part...especially on offense.

Jimmy Clausen-1st round pick (probably top 10)
Golden Tate-probably a 1st round pick
Michael Floyd-probably a 1st round pick (when his days at ND are done)
Kyle Rudolph-could see him going in the 1st round when he's done at ND too

There's quite a bit of talent on offense. Defensively, outside of Te'o....not sure who will play in the NFL. But the offense definitely has a lot of talent and this should not have been a 3-4 loss team this season with that offense IMO.

In regards to the schedule, as it turned out.....some of the "lesser" teams turned out/appear to be anything but (Pitt, Navy, Stanford maybe throw a 4-5 Uconn team in there because they're not as bad as people thought they would be) and some of the traditionally "tougher" teams aren't as good as in year's past (Michigan, USC, MSU). In a way it evens out in the end so I still expected better than a 4-loss season and IMO it should've been.
