Long story short, I'm in the military and don't even live or work in the state. Ohio is one of the few states who still taxes military members when they don't work in the state. Anyways I filed my tax return and I got 105 back from Ohio and my mom just called me and got a letter saying I owe them $255. Bullshit Ohio, I never worked a minute in your state and you wanna take more from me!!! GRRRRRRR!

Never had an issue with this. I spent 2006-2008 out of state on active duty, with most of 2007 and 2008 being deployed and earned a little more than $1,000 in state tax returns in those 3 years. For 2006, the only year i wasnt deployed i had about $150 in returns.

because how the military works is ohio is my home of record since i shipped to boot camp from there. they take out ohio state taxes because of this. i have no problem paying taxes through my paycheck but to owe more it doesnt make any sense at all.

Well to be fair, I don't think anyone in the military is really protecting any freedoms. Our freedom isn't really threatened at this point.


As for the OP, you should just do what I did. I didn't pay Ohio taxes. When I first joined I was technically an Ohio resident (even though I didn't live there), and I had Ohio taxes taken out of my military pay. I said screw it and didn't file with Ohio.

yes i had someone do them last week and im getting 105 back but my mom received a letter from the state wednesday saying i owe. it came almost the sametime i efiled so it wasnt because there was a mistake on my taxes.

and sleeper fuck you. i have a bachelors degree and believe it or not a lot of people do. they dont take too many ged applicants anymore in the navy.

Well I know we were in Iraq because of Saddam's tie to Al Qaeda, but it was never proven. Then we were in Iraq to find the WMD's, but they couldn't find them. Then we were there to free the Iraqi people, but when I was in Balad, Iraq the people I saw looked to be in bad shape.

When we were in Vietnam, we were told we were protecting our freedom, that doesn't make it so.

Like I said, I don't want to get in to politics here but for the most part I agree with what you're saying.

The existence of the US military protects your freedom. We don't have to be at war. Do you honestly believe if they weren't there that this great country would even exist?
