Was Tom Lemming around in 1946? That class had one of the greatest runs in history. Do I think they stack up anywhere near #1 compared to today? Hell no. I think Miami's 1999 class was #1.

the keyword there is arguably. You are crazy to think that he is not at least in the discussion.

I guess I'm crazy as well..

STM (short term memory)

Every so often a "great" college player comes along who is heralded as arguably one of the greatest. In a few years, somebody else will come along and the media/people will be all over him like they were for Tebow and the same things will be said.

I'm shocked that none of the great recruiting classes that Lou Holtz brought to ND didn't make that list. Probably other than Miami, ND cranked out a ton of NFL talent during the Holtz era.

I think OSU in 02 could have been on the list. However, the ones on the list are some great classes so it's understandable.

Hawk, Mangold, Holmes, and Carpenter all 1st round picks. Clarett was a beast his only year at OSU, leading them to a title. Troy Smith went on to win a Heisman. Jay Richardson and Rob Sims are starters in the NFL. Salley, Pitcock, Hall, Datish, and Mitchell were all drafted.

If Clarett hadn't gotten in trouble and kept doing his thing on the field at OSU for 2 more years, the 02 class would definitely be worthy of being on that list. I mean, we're talking 5 1st round draft picks and quite possibly 2 Heisman winners.

Because you touch yourself at the thought of another ND recruiting insult.

This list is tough because many of the great teams in college are put together by have a few great recruiting classes in a row. I have to look back at almost every great team to see who was redshirted, came out early, etc.

Now this makes me laugh.....I disagree with the fact that Tebow is arguably the best college football player of all time, but to say that Florida is ranked too high is a joke. They were ranked 6th and arguably were the most dominant team in the last 10 years, possibly 20 years. The record speaks for itself, but 3 SEC championships and 2 National titles is legit - not to mention how easily they were dismantling their opponents. What's even more impressive is how Urban Meyer continues these amazing classes each year. Florida will easily walk away with the top recruiting class again this year and who knows how many more times he will do this in the future.

I agree that Florida should be higher.

Also think that 02 Buckeyes deserve more consideration.

"The group would have won two BCS titles if not for a controversial pass interference call late in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl that allowed Ohio State to pull off an upset."

They never seem to mention the fact that regardless, it was a holding call. I will admit my bias as an Ohio State fan and alum, but I have never heard more whining about a call 8 years later.
