The Whitmer stadium will have a new look for the 2010 season. Construction plans are well on their way, contractors are secured and plans for dirt to fly are in process.
Here is whats going on!
We will have 2 new entrances, 2 additional ramps to access seating for our physically challenged fans, new fencing, new field lighting, new booster sales hut location.
There are 2 new buildings with concession stands and rest rooms in each.
Additionally located in the south building the new 100 player team locker room, coaches offices, meeting room, medical trainers room, equipment storage and laundry room.

Take a look on our website; www.whitmerfootball.com
Feel free to explore the website for more about Whitmer football!

I will give updates as they develop, and maybe some pictures if I can figure out how to post them.

What a great deal for Panther Football! Once again WHS shows progressive leadership for City League Competition. This improvement can only add additional value to a prospective athlete as to where he or she would want to play sports in high school. Thanks JM71 Best Wishes this year as always.

Where do the funds for these great improvements (to an already great facility) come from? This is all privately donated money, correct? Otherwise I'd think there'd be a huge stink about these types of improvements when so many other Toledo city schools are struggling with the basics... Don't get me wrong - I think it's really impressive and am envious...but just was curious as to how it's funded?!?!

That is a good question, but-- No that is not correct.
The Washington Local residents voted for these improvements during the last election when it was on the ballot. The WLS board has done an outstanding job of managing their facilities and being fiscally responsible at the same time. All buildings in the district have undergone necessary and preventative maintenance that include new roofs, windows etc... The WLS system also provides an outstanding educational opportunity for students to take advantage of with an excellent rating by the state for the second year, They provide state of the art equipment like smart boards in every room, many courses and activities. They have a beautiful and I think one of the largest auditoriums in NW Ohio that was built approximately 8 years ago.
Whitmer is in the Toledo City Athletic League and in not a part of the Toledo City School System.
A lot of hard work and effort goes into running this system and WLS system is fortunate to have a great group of board members and citizens that make every effort to help with our kids future.

I will add to Jm71's assertion that Whitmer and the Washington Local district as a whole have done a tremendous job in regards to their schools and finance, especially considering the current climate.

And of course, for whatever reason it must always be said, WHITMER (WASHINGTON LOCAL) IS NOT PART OF TOLEDO CITY SCHOOLS. They are on their own and it shows.

With the addition of Fremont and their wonderful stadium (Don Paul) that leaves the TCL with three dynamite HS venues that I would have never imagined seeing in my time, at least not in our corner of the state. All the more reason that the Big 3, Whitmer, & Fremont Ross, NEED to invite Findlay for their own league, at the very LEAST for football.

Hats off to that entire school district and system. I was under the mistaken impression they were part of the Toledo City School system... Takes a ton of work to get the whole community behind the investment into the kids...you all should be proud of being a part of that effort! I would've killed to play in a facility like that back in the 70s at my high school - unheard of (although we did rent those big spotlights that move back and forth across the night sky every now and then!!!!)

The Washington Local School District has invested $28 million dollars into their school facilities over the last 5 years. Only $1.7 million of that was for the stadium and over $500,000 of that was private dollars from the community. The community continues to invest in their facilities, their kids, families, their curriculum, and the district.

McK07, You have a good point. There have been recent improvements, but could use some more help. The existing press box is functional and adequate.

IMO work on the press box won't happen for quite a while for several reasons. The value added benefits are not high enough for a large investment. The number of people benefiting would make it a hard sell, unless a large donation would come our way.
Plus and more importantly, there are other priorities and wish list items that would benefit the kids more.

Press box will have to be private donation. Phase II of stadium renovations will probably be it until turf needs replacement.
