We don't have the most talent in the country. Texas USC Florida and recently Alabama have outrecruited us. The talent in Ohio has been down the past couple of years.

They weren't during the Cooper years, but they never won the Big 10 five years in a row. And for the Michigan game: Tress and Cooper isn't even a contest...its laughable.

With Cooper he was allowed to hoard talent somethng Tressel can not do with limited scholarships. Times have changed in College football. Did you ever see Boise State or TCU being in the top 10. Did you think you would see Michigan struggling this bad. Kids have started to go south to warmer schools instead of staying at home. Kids dont know the tradition that the older generation knew growing up. The kids playing these day werent alive when Woody or Bruce was the coach.

I think its pretty clear that settling for just winning the big ten isn't what it used to be. The game of college football has changed a lot with the onset of the BCS...and the fact of the matter is you have to compete on a national stage now. And Ohio State has not been doing it. The game has passed Tressel by and he continues to refuse to adapt. Sure, the stuff he was doing today worked against Iowa, we escaped with a W. If he does the same thing against Oregon, its going to be the same old song and dance in a BCS bowl. The guy has lost his mojo, a little part of him died the night Florida wiped the floor with us.

Well, who has sent the most players to the NFL in the last however many years you'd like to talk about? I know it has gone back and forth between USC and Ohio State. Regardless, the point is, why use someone else's failures as justification for your own?

IMO Iowa got lucky, and OSU was lucky to come out with the win. My thoughts are below.

1. Bad tackling on the kick off return and terrible coverage on the sideline. I give it to Iowa, but that was just a mistake on OSUs part.

2. Iowa's TE is OSU's MVP for the game. He dropped the ball for Iowa.

3. The offsides on Williams was a gift that took away an INT and TD.

4. The botched INT by Rolle and Checkwa kept that drive alive. Was pure luck the luck that has come Iowas way all year.

5. Checkwa got dominated.

6. Tressel falls in love with plays if they work once and runs them until they don't work.

7. I am sick of the tresselball playcalling in certain situations. It was good smart play calling at times and stupid predictable at others. Typical Tressel called game.

trep, if you ask anyone that is a fan of any other team, and ask whether winning the conference 5 years in a row isn't good enough and that OSU needs someone else, you'll get laughed out of the conversation. Who is going to do better? Urban Meyer? Jon Gruden? Big Bird? Tyler Durden? What happens when they (egad) might lose a game?

What a fucking joke what the OSU fanbase has become.

You live in a closet. Tressels recruiting classes of late have been great. This years will be no exception. He has dominated ohio recruiting. You fail.

Here is one thought many people don't talk about. JT has had more success in the B10 than Cooper, no debating it. But analyze that a bit more. How was the B10 viewed during Cooper's years? VERY high. How it is viewed now? Quite low. Just something to think about, that's all.

You have to also look at where these players are being drafted and how they are doing in the NFL. Some of the younger buckeyes have struggled recently at the next level.

Did my post go completely over your head? I said "just" settling for the Big Ten championship isn't enough anymore. Seriously, you need bigger and better things now. Most of the members of the Big Ten lose a game to a mediocre MAC team at some point in time during the season. The Big Ten is not a good conference by any means. Due to the rise of the internet and the growth of ESPN, college football has grown into a national game, not a regional game. More emphasis is put on bowl wins and big non-conference wins than conference championships.

I think we need an OC with some balls. JT is a great coach and has taken the program to a new level, but the offensive play calling is definitely weak.

who else is going to win the Big 10 haha. Ohio State has tried to let others take the crown for the past few years and nobody will step up.

I get what you're saying. Let me ask you a question. Do you think the offensive philosophy could be improved? I believe that it could be. I often think about this-- if OSU had a great offensive coordinator, how good would this team really be? They could be scary good. They had a good season last year, but they were held without an offensive TD in like 2-3 games, one against Purdue for sure. That should NEVER happen at OSU with this kind of talent. OSU fans should be very happy that we have a very successful coach, but it's scary to imagine the ceiling for this program if we even had a top 25 offense year in. But it is what it is

just because they are going high does not mean they are doing well in the NFL. People like Anothey Gonzalez, AJ Hawk and other have struggled in recent years. The best young buckeye currently in the NFL is Nick Mangold.

agreed. Nobody on the national level cares if Ohio State beats up on the hapless Wolverines (no offense Michigan fans) and whoever is having the better year out of Penn State & Wisconsin.

The real litmus test is Bowl games now.

Anyone who is familiar with the bowl results over the past few years (dating back to 2006) is aware of how god awful the Big 10 has become. idk what happened between 2005 (OSU beat ND in the Fiesta and PSU beat FSU in the Orange and the big 10 had an overall winning record in bowls) and 2006 (Michigan got blown out in the Rose and OSU got demolished in the NCGame and the Big 10 had an abysmal bowl record), but somewhere between that time, the Big 10 went from atop the conference football world with the SEC to the cellar with the Big East and ACC.

I believe the answer is that the NCAA reduced the limit from 95 to 92 (in 1992) to 88 (1993) to 85 (1994).

I would love to see tressel bring in a OC because i believe in this day in age it is hard for a coach to do the playcalling. You need someone who can watch Offensive tape all the time and whos sole focus is on the offensive. So yes i think we need a new OC but not a new head coach.

And again, I remind you when you were sniffing your mom's muff a Big 10 championship meant a lot, because your standards are so high no coach or team could obtain them doesn't mean you have a point.

Show some balls. Fire Tressel now. Who the fuck do you want to coach OSU? Who? I'm willing to debate...who do you want coaching OSU?
Do you really want to get into this debate, seeing as it is hypothetical? I'm not sure what you will use to shoot it down, but whatever. There are so many coaches that are doing so much more with so much less in the college football world right now. I'll see your Jim Tressel and raise you a Brian Kelly. I know, BK lost in the Sugar Bowl to VT in a close game last year, but he beat Oregon State in non-conference play this year...a bigger non-conference win than Tressel has in the past 3 years.

agreed. somebody bright, young, and outside of the university would be awesome.

I DO NOT want to see them appoint the duties to that joke of a coach who is the new QBs coach. Wasn't he a video watcher in his previous employment. You can't make stuff like this up. Haha. you have a QB with loads of potential and you bring in some guy who is new the coaching scene. Doesn't make sense.

And I think its safe to say that OSU has been failing that litmus test the past few years. Its going to take years of winning big OOC games to erase the lasting effects of that 41-14 debacle.
