this whole missing football because of his health was just a big farce. now he is going to be back for spring practice. i think he just did this for media attention and recruiting benefits. i officially do not like urban meyer!

I never really had a problem with him and he always seemed like a good guy, but I have zero respect for him now. Not because he said he was taking a break and then not, but more for not saying what was wrong with him in the first place.

And then the whole story about recruiting Floyd, I just don't get him.

But hey, he's a great football coach and if I were a Florida fan I'd love him.

That "leave of absence" was almost as long as Brandon Spikes' original suspension for eye-gouging.

No one with the coaching record he has can be categorized as a joke. We may not like him, but he certainly is no joke.

You can't take away his on field stuff, but off the field I've lost a ton of respect for him.

He's a great football coach, but he is a scumbag human being. Does that make him a joke? I don't know.

Is he a joke of a coach? No, he clearly knows how to coach and recruit... even if it involves telling recruits he would die to coach them (even though he doesn't know them) and apparently say his family is insignificant...

As far as what I think of him as a person... the second half of my first thought should probably give you an idea what I think of him.

I have to imagine, that in the modern state of NCAA football, the ability to be a successful coach/program director/recruiter/rainmaker/pr-machine probably demands an ego the size of Montana, as well as a certain degree of a "god-complex". Add to that the intense media scrutiny that these individuals are under, then is it any wonder that all their personal dramas are played out in larger-than-life fashion, and press conferences are held detailing every decision, whether we all want to hear it or not...no matter how tiresome or mundane.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of his antics (running the score up and calling time outs to do so, refusal to give his guys "real" punishments, taking all the attention away from his team in the week leading up to the UC game, etc). With that being said I'd take him in a heart beat

What I am about to post is from ESPN comments to the story that he is coming back. Just found this "inside" information kind of similar to what was being said about Kiffin. There is no evidence to back up this story but compared to most people that post on ESPN stories this person doesn't sound completely incompetent. Still, take it for what it is, a rumor.

Meyer is addicted to prescription medication. It is the worst-kept secret in the world. His family and higher-ups at Florida want him to go into treatment, but he thinks he doesn't need it. Meyer thinks that all he needs is a couple weeks of rest. He has a serious drug problem, and he didn't realize it, until the whole 911 call debacle. That's when he had a moment of clarity and announced that he was retiring because he knew it was not good for Florida to have a drug addict guiding students. The higher-ups at Florida reassured him that he didn't have to quit; everyone has problems in their lives, but with professional help, they can get back on their feet again. So, that's when he announced that he was just going to take a leave of absence, not resign. The intention was to go into treatment after the Sugar Bowl. But, then the recruiting train started rolling, and Meyer fell back into the whole work schedule again. He may be doing better now, but once the season starts up again, he will start having serious troubles again. His family is very worried about him. The "heart problems" were just a front for his prescription drug dependency. He's going to crash and burn again, mark my words. He needs help.

Floyd said the dream rumor is not true. It was determined that rumor was started by a tOSU or SoCar fan.
Shelley said last week he was feeling better and gained back 10 lbs. and was working out regularly.
There are only 1 or 2 spots left for recruiting and they have 4 or 5 recruits wanting in or leaning in case we have any defections. I don't think the return announcement has so much to do with landing one of the recruits. I can understand the disapproval by fans, I wish he had not talked tonite, but it is a sign of how much better he looks and feels. He is still taking the break after signing day. He said he has a stress/medical issue he needs to fix and he needs to change the way he does some work.
As soon as I heard, I winced at the slamming he will get for not waiting to announce. I believe he has a medical issue that startled him to weigh it for a week, he resigned, then the strength and conditioning coach unknowingly talked him into staying early the next morning in The Swamp. The leave of absence was offered and suggested by the A.D. and Pres.
