I just wanna throw this out there. Diebler, while scoring a respectable 11 points, had ZERO rebounds, and ZERO assists. You're playing the wing in a zone, you have got to crash the boards. How can you play the majority of a game, and not grab one, single, rebound? Hell, Simmons grabbed a board and i'm betting Diebler played at least 3x as many minutes as him.
I'll be glad to educate you youngster. Think about it, who is Ohio State's best rebounder? Where was Ohio State's best rebounder playing in the 1-3-1 zone? Where did Ohio State's best rebounder go after a shot was taken? What player in a 1-3-1 zone is USUALLY given the responsibility of being back on defense to keep a player from leaking out and starting a fast break?
PAY ATTENTION.....Turner is Ohio State's best rebounder. Turner played the point in Ohio State's 1-3-1 zone. Turner crashed the boards when a shot was taken. Since the point in the 1-3-1 was crashing the boards a wing(DIEBLER) MUST be assigned the responsibility of getting back on D and NOT going for rebounds.
Assists??? Turner has the ball in his hands the vast majority of the time. Turner shoots, creates or dishes, Turner gets the vast majority of assists. The few times the other players make a pass to an open teammate, if that open player shoots and misses, ZERO ASSISTS.
Dumb teenagers
I'm still waiting for you to educate me, cuz if this was your attempt, you failed miserably. Why in the hell would you have your best rebounder play the point in a 1-3-1 zone, thus putting him as far away from the basket as possible? It would be incredibly stupid to have Diebler never crash and strictly assign him to getting back on D for two reasons. One being that he's horrible on defense and two he's playing the wing in a 1-3-1 zone! When the shot is taken from the side opposite him, he's got backside responsibilities. Are you trying to imply that Matta just simply gave up all backside rebounding so Diebler could get back on D? If so, that's quite possibly the most retarded thing i've ever heard.
Diebler needs to come off the bench. If you're going to play a 1-3-1 zone, put Simmons or PJ at the point, where they would naturally play, and move Turner to the wing where Diebler was, thus putting him in a better rebounding position. Not that hard to understand.
When you play a 1-3-1, the bottom guy, is often flying from corner to corner to trap. Thus, you don't put Turner down there and wear him out. Lighty is the best option.
Turner on the wing isn't a bad option. Although many coaches like to put their best athlete, with length at the top to take away the passing lanes, along with causing the guards to throw over top of a long player. Thus the reason Turner is at the top on the 1-3-1. No offense, but those are the exact reasons why certain players are where they are.
If some of you actually think Simmons and Hill are the answer....then the reality is, OSU is in big trouble. Matta isn't going to replace anyone right now, nor should he. Its basketball. Its not a perfect science. Guys don't always play their best each and every game. There is error, always has been, always will be.
This team is 14-6. Three of those losses were without Turner. With Turner in lineup, this team wins 5 of those 6 games IMO...leaving them at 16-4. I know, I know...woulda coulda shoulda. But some of you are "panicing" when things are actually not so bad. WVU is a top 10 team, who played on their homecourt. This was not a bad loss by any means.
OSU "should" win their next 5 games, leaving them at 19-6. Then things tough up with the last 6 games. At worst, this team finishes 22-9 IMO.
