Who is going to be the best team in R23 for 2010? This may not be the best in the Harbin ratings, simply pick the best team.

I have no idea and would have to bet not too many do. I say it could be any of the teams on your poll except Rosecrans.

i think any team on this list other than hannibal river has a chance with the edge going to newark catholic. also not really sure about danville. didnt they have another coaching change?

GCC lost a lot of seniors whcih was the original senior class. However, there is a lot of talent right behind them. Even though the group started from their freshman year on, I think the 2010 team might even be better than 2009's. That is assuming everyone comes back, which is always a question with small private schools. So far everyone is coming back. Check out the GCC thread for rosters, key returnees, etc. GCC should be better, but R23 will be better too. Danville's new coach is their old coach who led them to the playoffs 5 of the 6 years he was there. They basically have everybody back. Shadyside is returning a lot and so are Columbiana and Bridgeport. Newark Catholic, of course, is always strong. This should be a fun region to watch.

Malvern will not make playoffs next year.

GCCS is a program that come up quickly and could be back challanging
Shadyside is a good program

as always... NC is the 500lb gorilla that tends to have a tougher time getting in than winning it if they get in

their 4 losses were to a D5, 2 D4 and a D3 playoff teams... with combined 5 losses... and three of those 5 were in head to head against each other...

and THAT with Licking Valley (who NC beat) having a "down" year!

Their league is BRUTAL!
I'd say the same will be true in 2010... IF NC gets in... they win region 23

I agree with all of that, but look too at what Columbiana and Bridgeport have coming back. Those teams are going to be right in the thick of it. I hope their huddlers jump in here. Danville will be improved too.

As for Newark Catholic, I would like to see GCC in the Mid-State league. Geographically and competetively it makes sense. I don't know if there is room for GCC though. A division that includes GCC, NC and Fisher Catholic would be exciting.

looking at last years top 8 (1) malvern: dont know what they have coming back (2) columbiana: bunch back (3) rosecrans: bunch back but have a tendency to lose a few (4) bridgeport: bunch back (5) tusky central: dont know (6) GCC: bunch back (7) shadyside: bunch back (8) symmes valley: dont know. maybe some of the dont know schools could fill us in.

also i agree with the other posters on this thread about newark catholic. if they make it in, with their schedule, they'll be the team to beat in R23.

With the changes talked about I don't see any changes in the Buckeye or Ohio divisions. Odds are we are talking about splitting up the Cardinal in to two divisions ect with the newcomers filling the open spots...

though a couple more years of not making the post season might change NC's mind...

I know Rosecrans loses their qb and top rusher. Both lines and receivers return pretty much intact and they used 3 rb's last year, so they should be fine. The schedule is brutal. If they go 8-2 again they will be scary. I give them a ton of credit for taking on a challenge.

Historic--agreed!! Dynasty--no way. They have not been dominant for several years. It is a fitting and proper schedule with no complaints originating at NC!!!

I was noticing that type of schedule has put NC in the playoffs before with 5-5/6-4 records. My hope is that as GCC gets more established they will schedule with that amount of confidence. Are there any Columbiana huddlers out there?

It's the same basic schedule that they won a state title with in 2007 so I don't think they're going to back away from it anytime soon. They play one of the top D. IV schedules in the state year in and year out (especially with two very strong D3 schools in LV and Granville in their league, as well as Heath in D4 and Academy in D5), and it simply prepares them much better than most D.6 schools to play schools that are their size.

Last time I talked to our AD he told me that long term that is how he would like to challenge the team more. The schedule has been getting a little stronger each year, but there is still not a lot of wiggle room for losses. He had a hard time finding a home game for week 5. He was getting calls from D1 and D2 teams, which is fine, but the culture that NC has not been established yet here. 2009 was a great year, but it caught us being uprepared in a lot of ways. For starters, the weight program has not become a habit among the younger kids yet. Its better now, but still a little spotty. That will improve, and must if they expect to have high expectations year after year. Also, the boosters are just now establishing by-laws and electing officers. This is going to be the 5th year of football, and I think GCC will be better prepared than last year. Its a process. I admire Newark Catholic and what they have accomplished. GCC will be there someday, hopefully soon.
