A chain called fye or something like that. Don't think they have vinyls, but can't say for sure. I hadn't been there for years and basically just walked in, made a beeline to the metal section and looked for stuff I wanted.

oh yeah, we got a fye in chillicothe. maybe 2 or 3 vinyl and its usually only some big release or picture disc. i will say that the last few years though with changing up their suppliers and smaller labels getting better distribution deals you can find some good stuff sometimes.

No I haven't. It'd been a while since I actually spent money on music because with things like last.fm, pandora, torrents, etc., I could listen/obtain stuff I liked. But I got a new car a few months ago with a CD player, so I've felt like upgrading my collection, which I haven't done in years.

And since I heard the Marion fye store is going out of business and everything is at minimum 50% off, I'm scavenging. I'll be back tomorrow to get more Kataklysm and Amon Amarth, at least. Had an intriguing couple of remastered/additional content-enhanced Carcass discs, too. The new Immortal (which, while not as good as Sons of Northern Darkness or At the Heart of Winter, still is pretty kickass); an apparently newish one by Obituary and some other interesting stuff.

Speaking of interesting stuff, anyone who's a fan of any combination of metal, Frank Zappa and psychedelic drugs should check this out. In college I kinda dug Pungent Stench (a euro-death group with a twisted sense of humor), but I never imagined they could create this insane masterpiece.

Rammstein is about as hardcore as I get, I been listening to alot of them lately. I just don't see the fascination with the hard to make out lyrics and screaming of hardcore. Rammstein would be God if they cut out the electronic shit, cuz their riffs and beats are sweet.

Rammstein is SWEET! Very catchy music, I just wish they were able to play in the U.S. their concerts seem pretty entertaining.

since you don't really listen to "hardcore" stuff I won't laugh at rammstein be called hardcore. hardcore isn't just an adjective to describe music that has screaming or heavy parts, hardcore is an actual genre of music that broke from punk rock in the late 70's, of which rammstein isn't a part of.

as far as the screamng and indecipherable lyrics, their is really only one band I have trouble with and that is Converge. His vocals are pretty rough and the vocal patterns are hard to keep up with even when I know the lyrics, and his lyrics are amazing

My Saturday spree at the going-out-of-business fye included two more Kataklysm CDs (Serenity in Fire and Prevail), Amon Amarth's With Odin On Our Side, Immortal's All Shall Fall and Aborted's The Archaic Abattoir. Reasonably good haul. I'm pretty much done with that place, now, and have overhauled virtually my entire car music selection for the short term.

I just spent a bit of time on a Youtube nostalgia kick after hearing that Japanese avant-garde black metal band Sigh released a new album.

Listened to a few songs I really like off Imaginary Sonicscape, which is one of the best black metal-related albums of all time. Scarlet Dream, Sunset Song, Ecstatic Transformation, Bring Back the Dead....all great tunes. Hangman's Hymn is also a good album by them, although, stylistically, it's completely different — a high-speed, insanely chaotic barrage on your brain.

Sigh kicks ass.

The early Enslaved albums and of course the mighty Emperor. Also, Heretic, you're right about that Sigh album "imaginary sonicscape". It's actually the ONLY Sigh album I like pretty much. If you guys wanna hear something new that's on the tip try this band>>>In Mourning...the album>>>"monolith". Kinda like a mix of Opeth and Dark Tranquillity. Nothing new for sure, but they do it really well.

I look at All Shall Fall as sort of the average, generic reunion album of any group. It's below the level of what made you get into them, but it's a nostalgia trip. A couple good songs and a few competent ones in their style. I only bought it because it was half off, but I don't regret doing so.

I'd say one of my fav early black metal albums was Darkthrone's Transilvania Hunger. Because of the title track and the Flittermice Satan Spies song (track 7, I think). Other than that, I prefer more second-gen stuff.

Sigh's Imaginary Sonicscape combines 70s psychedelic with black metal. Pure genius.

Thank god that Ozzy is ressurecting ozzfest because this is the shittiest rehashed line up i've ever seen.

Yeah cause ozzfest isn't rehashed year after year. There's some decent bands on mayhem, just like there will be 1 or 2 decent on ozzfest, none of which are worth gon to IMO

The chances are that Ozzfest will have a better line up with the usual mall core bands being on shithem fest this year.

To go back to All Shall Fall by Immortal, after a good car listen while randomly driving around, the problem is that it seems to be a hastily-created "cash in on the band's underground fame" release. Tracks 4 and 7 are both Sons of Northern Darkness-worthy. Lengthy and with the suitably epic feel Beyond the North Waves, Antarctica, Within the Dark Mind, etc. had. But! Two problems.

1. It's a 7-song disc. You're making your big comeback with only 7 songs? Kind of weak.

2. Other than 4 and 7, it's pretty generic and weak. There were parts of a few songs I dug (particularly 5), but overall, those two were the only ones that I'd want to repeatedly play.

Listening to an awesome band right now called " In Mourning" check them out.
