Over the last 10 BCS title games, 9 out of 10 years included a team with hundreds of secondary violations and/or a major infraction(s) in football

Lets look at Bama football. Penalized 4 times in the last 15 years by the NCAA and currently on probation, the most recent textbook scandal involved 15 athletic programs (with football being the largest offender) and by rule made Bama football eligible once again for the death penalty.

Over the course of those violations Bama has paid players (See 1995 Major Infractions 24K documented in "loans" during the recruiting process and while the players were part of the football team), paid players again a few years later (See Albert Means and others NCAA Major Infraction in 2002), allowed players to receive a bunch of free textbooks that were sold to other students for profit (The four biggest offenders in dollar value were football players, who received from $2,714 to $3,947 in improper benefits = players getting paid See NCAA Major Infraction ), and in 1999 had a basketball coach attempt to create a booster slush fund to pay players from.

15 years, 4 documented cases of Alabama paying players, 3 documented cases in the last 10 years that are all lack of institutional control.

Of course the NCAA allowed Oklahoma to just vacate past wins (as Bama recently did) in the auto dealership no show job scandal that paid football players thousands. A season after the scandal punishment Oklahoma was in the BCS national championship game. Since 2000 Oklahoma has more than 225 secondary violations.

Lets look at OSU Football. Over 375 secondary violations from 2000 through May of 2009, at that rate they would be over 400 by now. Recruit Derek Morris was paid but was not allowed to enroll (had he enrolled and played that is a major violation, as it was there were multiple secondary violations, including free housing, over 1K in cash, free airline tickets, etc.) OSU admitted to two secondary violations while recruiting Pryor, Pryor for a time was declared ineligible but reinstated by the NCAA. Many other freebies documented but OSU hides behing FERPA and will not release the names of the players. Free meals, flights, cash for autographs, cash for no show jobs, free dinner with the President of OSU for not declaring for the draft early, free tickets to NBA games, you name it it's in there.

And why will the Bama's, USC's, OSU's, and Oklahoma's continue to cheat until the NCAA stops them?

After the 2002 national championship, OSU football revenue was $87.9 million, up 28 percent from the previous season. Sales of OSU apparel and other merchandise quadrupled to $4.2 million. In the 2006-07 season, OSU merchandise provided $7.5 million to the athletic budget. The public's buying frenzy followed an undefeated regular season in football and a trip to the Final Four in basketball.

If I'm USC and the NCAA comes down real hard I appeal and use Alabama and OSU as my references, can't come down us with a post season ban you have set precedence with Alabama on major violations and OSU with secondary violations.

The NCAA has to step up and get this under control. Football recruiting is only getting worse, with the emergence of 7 on 7 football it's taking on an AAU basketball feel with the top 7 0n 7 teams coaches becoming mentors and contact points for football recruits.

At the end of the day it's big money and until a few of these schools are handed post-season bans or the death penalty it will continue.

Sad state of affiars but it pays to cheat.

NCAA has to set a precedent, eventually. Maybe USC will be their test subject.

I really don't know if USC will be their test subject. USC is one of the top all time programs in NCAA. They bring in a lot of money. I hope the NCAA drops the hammer on them big time. But I really don't know if it will happen.

You don't cut off the hand that feeds you. These high profile schools make too much money for the NCAA for them to penalize them too harshly.

Would you have included Michigan if they would have been in a BCS championship game???? Happens everywhere it's not new news!

The NCAA has a tendency to come down the hardest on those programs least able to fight back. USC does not fall into that category.

What about Michigan? I don't see any payment from their cheating other than sitting home during bowl season and losing annually to Ohio State.

How about actually putting some PERSPECTIVE in his post, rather than blindly equating blatant cheating that caused Alabama to be severely punished (including probation) with simple rule violations reported as part of compliance checks by the university itself.

One is NOT equal to the other -- and his entire point (at least the part using Ohio State) is flawed beyond measure.

I have no problem using OSU as an example of how not to do things if they are done so ACCURATELY. This was clearly not the case here.

I hate to see OSU on here but you can't really argue it. All of Clarett's stupid shit will never be forgotten and will always make OSU appear to be dirty......even though I don't think OSU is as dirty as people think. A lot of their issues have been self-reported secondary violations. Boosters have also been a problem but you can't pin that on Tressel or the Athletic Department unless you can some how monitor them 24/7. Luckily, the one 'crooked' boosters is no longer associated with the program and there haven't been any more issues with boosters since.

To me, it seems like USC, Florida, and Bama get all those marquee blue chip, 5 star players from all over the nation....and I think that's when you see the dirty side of recruiting go down. OSU really doesn't get big time 5 star recruits unless they're in Ohio (Beanie, Ginn, Boone, Adams, etc.). Pryor, of course, is the exception to this and there were some violations committed by OSU in his recruiting which have already been documented.

Also teams like UM are being investigated for violations but yet they suck.
