Otani and Nidas are my personal favorites. Nidas in the North Market if I had to choose would be my favorite though. Lemongrass and Tyfoon are also up there as well.

You know it's good when you walk in and see 4 really old japanese men behind the counter who can't speak a lick of english.

Doesn't get any more authentic than that. Got an anniversary coming up, do they require reservations?

If you go on a weeknight around 7 you would be fine. People say they get them for the weekend, but I have never had a problem during the week.

It's not sushi, but Barcelona is a great spot for special occasions. http://www.barcelonacolumbus.com/

We usually go to the Top but I was less than impressed the last time I was in. And for 150$ I need to be impressed. I will pass this by the woman and let her decide which way she wants to roll.

Shoku in Grandview is pretty good. Pricey, but its one of those things you get what you pay for.

Barcelona is my standard "special occasion" restaurant. I always make a reservation there.

Akai Hana is also right next to Tensuke Market. They make their own sushi as well (which is quite tasty) and, as a Japanese grocery store, also sell everything you need to make your own.
