Chris Leak, Ken Dorsey, Matt Mauk, Craig Krenzel, Tee Martin, and Chris Weinke are all essentially no longer in the NFL, at least none of them are relevant.

What does that say to me? That none of these guys had NFL type skill, so really, it's tough to differentiate who's better than who. Weinke had a great chance in Carolina and blew it. I don't think Krenzel was good enough for the NFL despite being the best of 3 awful quarterbacks on that Bears team. Tee Martin? Chris Leak? 5th round picks who didn't accomplish anything.

All of those quarterbacks "managed the game" because of all of the talent around them.

IMO, only Vince Young and Tim Tebow are the true catalysts behind their teams offenses. Matt Leinart was extremely good in college, but that offense still would have been terrific with Cassel or Booty as QB's.

On a side note, I was on wikipedia just now, and the 2004 USC team has 53 players in the NFL. I know they didn't all play, and don't all contribute in the NFL, but thats ABSURD.

Krenzel started a few games in the NFL and won not because of him. There is a reason he only lasted a few games.

Go look at some of the youtube highlights of Josh Heupel...to me, it seems pretty clear that he has the least skills of any of these other QB's listed...even Krenzel.

He only lasted a few games because he got hurt. He was 3-0 as a starter for Chicago. They released him at the end of the season because they had too many QB's on their roster once everyone was healthy. And yes, that Bears team was built to win without the QB having to do anything, although it's not like Grossman did a whole lot better when he was the starter there either.

There is also a reason he was drafted and given a shot. If McElroy draws an NFL check , there would be a reason for that as well.

After leaving the Bears, Krenzel made the Bengals roster for one season. That must mean something.

I am not a big fan of Krenzel, but the guy did start and win in the NFL.He must have had some skills.

Derek Anderson through 19 INT's in 2007, and had 20 of his 29 TD's scored against the leagues worst defenses, while getting his ass handed to him against real defenses. Because we went 10-5 with him in, does that mean he was doing something right?

He got drafted in the 5th round. After leaving the Bears he was able to back up Jon Kitna and Carson Palmer. He was no good in the NFL.

Also one of his wins in the NFL came when the 49ers started Kenneth Dorsey.

I think it's between Heupel and Mauk from LSU.

Both of them weren't talented.

Krenzel had a very weak arm, but was a very smart player, which benefited him and the Buckeyes.

Heupel's arm was worse than Ken Dorsey's.

I know it wasn't during the BCS era, but John Shaffer was the starting QB for my beloved Nittany Lions in the 1986 Orange Bowl loss to Oklahoma in a 1 vs 2 matchup and then won the 1987 Fiesta Bowl in a 1 vs 2 matchup with Miami. He was a terrible passer, but a great leader. He would have to be on the list of worst QBs to win a national title game. It pains me to say it, but it is still true. Oklahoma shut down Penn State's run game and he was exposed in that game. Miami was dominated by Penn State's defense, so he never really had to do anything in that game, though he did have one of their rushing tds on a naked boot.

Mauk from LSU gets my vote.

I'm just offering up FACTS.

NFL teams don't usually pay players who don't have a skill set.
It doesn't matter who the Bears defeated while Krenzel was the starter. What is important is that at least TWO teams saw enough of a skill set to pay him.

I think it is idiotic to put "worst" and "win a national Chamionship game" in the same sentence.
