Absolute truth, and they should for the good of the game.justincredible;1873792 wrote:The 1st Amendment really has nothing to do with this. The NFL would be completely within their rights to stop it tomorrow.

I'm gonna partially disagree with this. It's the job of the media to report on stories and issues like this. Would be completely irresponsible to ignore it.HOF on coattails;1873783 wrote:Blame the media too. Simple fix is keep the camera's on the person singing the national anthem and NOT on the kneeling players. It would all go away.
Now, I don't 100% condone all the media does (i.e. is LeBron heading to LA, etc.), but in a case like this (and a few others that people complain about), it's literally their job to inform the public of everything going on.

Taking shots at and pissing off one another is not conducive in conceiving the proposed goal. Will the two sides ever succeed by kicking each other in the nuts every chance they get? In my 43 years I have never experienced such a diverse reality that the good people of our country are creating, sickening.

They're never going to fire half the players. Now, hefty fines could start to make things interesting....fish82;1873795 wrote:Exactly. Employers have pretty wide discretion toward employee behavior during work hours...especially that which can affect company revenue. They’re perfectly within their right to condone it or shut it down.

I do, too.
They should have respectfully waited until the anthem was over......THEN excercised their freedom of speech....geez.

Don't NFL players get paid for their actions on the field, not while the anthem is playing? Doubtful the national anthem is considered part of their paid work time.fish82;1873795 wrote:Exactly. Owners could fire every kneeler tomorrow...and while I’m sure the players union would sue, the owners would win in court pretty easily.

I would consider their work day consisting of when they arrive at the facility until they leave the facility.HOF on coattails;1873824 wrote:Don't NFL players get paid for their actions on the field, not while the anthem is playing? They are in uniform. They are representing their team and the league. They are in their office, so to speak. The owner/coach/commissioner could absolutely stop them from doing this. I have absolutely no issue with the protests, but teams/league could put a stop to them immediately and the players would really have no recourse.HOF on coattails;1873824 wrote:Don't NFL players get paid for their actions on the field, not while the anthem is playing? Some legal guy on espn said he asked the NFL whether they'd do that, and they didn't even want to address the hypothetical. You're right they definitely could, but I don't think they'll ever actually do it. That'd piss their players off so bad there could actually be a threat of the players not showing up for work.justincredible;1873838 wrote:They are in uniform. Yup, the union would have a field day in court.SportsAndLady;1873839 wrote:Some legal guy on espn said he asked the NFL whether they'd do that, and they didn't even want to address the hypothetical. I mean, players get fines for wearing the wrong kind of shoes. I'm pretty sure the league could start fining players and the union wouldn't be able to stop it.

No, but they can refuse to play. What's worse, "declining" ratings or no game at all?justincredible;1873842 wrote:I mean, players get fines for wearing the wrong kind of shoes. I'm pretty sure the league could start fining players and the union wouldn't be able to stop it.

And here we have a microcosm of what is wrong in our public dialogue. If you disagree with someone else's point of view, don't debate it like a gentleman. Call them a "whiny *****". Quaker, I'm sure you'd have the courage to call one of these NFL players that to his face, right?QuakerOats;1873867 wrote:
