Or did Trump just start a war of words and Kim was never going to do anything?
They still have nukes and continue to develop long-range missiles....means Trump doing as well in NK as his predecessors.

What do think Trump should do? If he cleans up Clinton, Bush, Obamas mess the left will use it against him. If he doesnt do anything the left will use it against him.
Rock and hard place politically.

Trump could stroll into N Korea and diplomatically cause the nutball to politely and willingly hand over everything nuclear, and the media would call him a bully.
And this will continue for 8 years.

I don't care what the media says.
I'm not creaming my pants because his greatest foreign policy achievement thus far is winning a war of words with Kim that was stupid, risky, unnecessary and accomplished nothing.

I don't know that we won anything. Although if we have managed to get China to apply the needed pressure to defuse the situation, that is probably a good thing. Of course, no credit would ever be given to Trump, which obviously we all realize.

Modern international diplomacy in a nutshell, IMO.

You're welcome. Prayers to all who spent 2 weeks pissing themselves.
Hostile rhetoric from North Korea is nothing new. It has been happening for 60 years. Sometimes it gets more aggressive than other times. What's occurred these past few weeks is nothing new. They likelihood that Kim (like his father and grandfather before him) will start shooting is low. That would mean the end of him and his time in power. These stunts are face-saving exercises designed to keep his own people in line. What the US president says or doesn't say is irrelevant. Trump didn't do anything except occupy the presidency while this latest North Korean screaming pout went on.

This is funny coming from someone who was able to somehow tie every perceived wrong during the past 8 years to Obama.

Well, maybe Trump deserves some credit for that.
Although, IMO, US trade/economics is far more important to China than NK....and it was never really a doubt that China would stand on the sidelines if Kim launched an unprovoked attack. The assumption China's public statement was material would have to assume China was not already saying those things privately to NK (which I think is very likely).
But unless NK ceases its missile tests, then nothing Trump or China said made any real difference.

Yeah, obama really screwed up the technical and difficult Iran negotiations. Great point...oh wait. I meant the exact opposite of that.
Moving along, I don't think comparing Drumpf to Obama is relevant or helpful in this scenario. It's really about NK situation has been mishandled for a very long time. And the president tweeting and having "tough" talk about it isn't a strategy for success.

Is it in our national security interest too not allow a third less stable nation to primarily target their nuclear arsenal on our major cities? Why should we not very aggressively combat this?

Because in the last 8 years we have been transformed; the wussification of America is pretty well complete.

Pointing out and discussing the current president's dealing with an international threat is hardly just bashing trump to bash him snowflake.
