but most wouldn't consider this specializing that so many people are against. There is one thing to give up sports late in your career to protect yourself from an injury when you have something big and when a kid a much younger age puts all his eggs in one basket and quits everything but one sport well before that age.
Aaron Craft did it a number of years ago. He was a standout QB but quit his SR year because of Hoops and Ohio State.
I am not for kids quitting and such, but once you become a Senior and you have something etched in stone, or pretty much close to it, then I cannot fault them.
In early on, in JH or even Frosh to quit....I think is too early as a kid can learn a lot, mentally and physically, that ccould help him in his favorite sport.
There was talk in our area over the years about kids and if they should play. Todd Boeckman at OSU. Starred in all 3 sports and some thought he should quit 1 or 2 but didn't. Cory Luebke stood out for Marion Local in football as a QB and pitcher in baseball. He stuck it out and led his team to the state finals in FB and got drafted (3 times) by MLB.
Specializing young = bad.
Leaving a sport your Sr year when you have solid offers to go to the next level.....much harder to criticize
