My cut takes a half an hour or so. I don't get a shave, but he trims up my sideburns/beard and I get the straight razor shave on the back of my neck.

I got a pretty big beard, so it takes a while. I'm also nervous AF anytime it's getting cut bc if he fucks it up it will take ~8 months to get it back. He takes his time and gets it right which I appreciate.

My wife uses electric clippers and does my hair once a month. Silly for me to pay $12-$20 for someone in town to do it and then tip them for doing their job.

I go once every 8 - 10 weeks. Pretty much whenever the mustache is growing over my mouth.

Can't believe grown men spend that much on a hair cut.

I can't believe a grown man cares how much another grown man spends on a hair cut.

You come off as a grumpy old pathetic man on here. Hope this is just your message board alter ego and you're not this miserable in real life!

I am not trying to sound like city snob gut (side note: anyone else find it funny that gut is very snobby about living in a city but he is too much of a puss to tell us which city he lives in?), but he isn't shitting you. It is nearly impossible to find a haircut under $30, unless you want to go to a hole in the wall barber shop. You most likely won't find the demographics of the clientele who go to those barber shops. Not everyone wants the Ohio/Midwest buzzcut, so god forbid they skip out on buying clippers.

Shit, I'm pretty sure the barber that I have gone to since I was 7 charges $30 and he's in Westerville. Then again, I only go to him like once a year and he only charges me $20.

I cut my own hair and have my gf trim the back for me. I do like to get a "real" haircut from him every once and a while though.

I believe it.

LOL, I must be part of the low-life demographic, because I've frequented a "hole-in-the-wall" establishment for years.

This part of the thread is enlightening, because I haven't visited a barber in over ten years. I was paying $14 when I stopped - I imagine the place I used to go to might be charging $20 by now.

I can understand the higher prices of the city shops also, especially if they're like some of the videos I've seen where the stylist spends 40 minutes on a cut my barber would do in 8. It's just that they're taking the hair off a fraction at a time, so it takes a lot longer, and you're paying for that time.

I'm in Chicago. There's a sports clips across the street from my apartment that is $23 + tax +$5-7 tip.

There's an awesome barbershop in a different part of the city that I'll go to if I have the time and energy to make the trek. That's $14 + $5-7 tip. It's a much better cut but working 9 hours and then going to Lincoln park just sometimes doesn't sound fun at all. So I'll walk across the street to sports clips.

As soon as it gets hot I'm going one blade w/ my Wahl clippers. Then I hope to get ETB's approval.

Definitely. Place I went from age 7-23 ish was up to $20 to just use the clippers on me and trim up the rest....that was 20 years ago. Guessing they are around $30 for the same. When it hit $20 I switched to a lady who did it for $8 (as it took maybe 10 minutes)....she became very involved in an election and that's all she would talk about a push on me.....just figured it was silly to pay anything when my wife didn't care to do it. The money we save for me and my son getting it done for free pays for my wife's colorings, highlights etc.

tl;dr I'm over 40 and married and don't care about my hair too much.
