Can't just pull someone out of Treasury at a Fortune 50 and expect them to understand the complexities of the markets and economy, unless they had a significant background in banking before their current gig.

QO just used them as a political authority, and yet, were this September, or anytime before the election in 2012, he would likely be decrying their political position. It would seem as though we treat them as authorities only during times in which they support our own positions ... which really doesn't make them authorities.

Goldman-Sachs is just doing what they always do: positioning themselves on the side of the incumbent. They've been a major donor to BOTH major candidates in the last several elections. Had Trump taken public donations in mass quantities, I've no doubt they'd be on there in his camp, too. But he didn't. So what are they doing now? They're posturing.
All this to say that they've recently made sure that they've had skin in every camp. To think that this is a genuine assessment is to ignore the political involvement they've had up to this point. Their assertion holds no water, because there's too much precedent to indicate self-serving motives for the claim itself.
