no, how bout you?Con_Alma;1824691 wrote:By chance did you ever serve in the military?
I did not but I had a father who did and a child who is at a service academy with plans to serve after their degree. The Surgeon General can be pretty influential on a variety of issues...some that were highlighted throughout the recent election campaign.ZWICK 4 PREZ;1824692 wrote:no, how bout you?
Nope never did. My father was in the army during Vietnam too. And that's cool about your son. Which academy?Con_Alma;1824694 wrote:I did not but I had a father who did and a child who is at a service academy with plans to serve after their degree. I can see how the vast majority of people wouldn't really care who the Surgeon General is. Those in the military and especially officers certainly do. That's why when the question was asked who would care, I answered those in the military. Thought it would be surprising if you served and didn't see much of an impact on what the SG does.
Again, serious question - is he/she responsible for the dreadful medical care our veterans receive?Con_Alma;1824694 wrote:I did not but I had a father who did and a child who is at a service academy with plans to serve after their degree. There's really only one service academy in our house and it's on the east coast.ZWICK 4 PREZ;1824695 wrote:Nope never did. My father was in the army during Vietnam too. And that's cool about your son. Which academy?
Well that narrows it down to 2.Con_Alma;1824697 wrote:There's really only one service academy in our house and it's on the east coast.
Three, actually.ZWICK 4 PREZ;1824699 wrote:Well that narrows it down to 2.
Responsible?? I would say that probably yes, they would be. He/she holds supervisory responsibility over Public Health Service Commissioned Corps activities.queencitybuckeye;1824696 wrote:Again, serious question - is he/she responsible for the dreadful medical care our veterans receive?

I guess 4 actually. I usually only consider Air Force, Army, and Navy.. but Coast Guard and Merchant Marine are on the East Coast too.queencitybuckeye;1824700 wrote:Three, actually.
I might actually respect him more for this. Regardless of the administration, it's nice to see someone turn down a cabinet position, assuming it was on principle.Con_Alma;1824667 wrote:No Surgeon General for Carson. He said he's not interested.
He'd have to stay in the cupboard.ZWICK 4 PREZ;1824672 wrote:As long as Chris Christie is there, nothing will fit in a cabinet.
I don't mind someone being diplomatic and not calling a portion of the population "lunatics," though I think the anti-vaccination movement has potentially dangerous consequences (assuming it grows large enough to have a widespread effect). Did he espouse the anti-vax position? Refuse to come out against it? Or just not to a strong enough degree?sleeper;1824684 wrote:Not normally no. But I don't want a guy who didn't dismiss the Anti-vaxxers as being lunatics being in charge of public health policy.
I would have rather Dr. Carson become Education Secretary; of course, maybe we are going to do away with the federal Department of Education; which would be fantastic.queencitybuckeye;1824682 wrote:Serious question, is there a reason why anyone should give a fuck about the Surgeon General?
We can only hope that welfare benefits become as hard to get as VA benefits.queencitybuckeye;1824696 wrote:Again, serious question - is he/she responsible for the dreadful medical care our veterans receive?
He was asked at the debate, as a doctor, his opinion of vaccinations. He basically said something, paraphrasing, that people should make up their own minds about these issues and make the best choice for their family.I don't mind someone being diplomatic and not calling a portion of the population "lunatics," though I think the anti-vaccination movement has potentially dangerous consequences (assuming it grows large enough to have a widespread effect). It's the latter. Book it.ptown_trojans_1;1824707 wrote:I'm not sure if Trump is just taking his time or has no idea what the hell he is doing.
Today, the DOD stated they have not been contacted at all about the transition.

Yes let's appoint an Education head who thinks the Pyramids were built to store grain and that the Earth is only 4,000 years old.QuakerOats;1824708 wrote:I would have rather Dr. Carson become Education Secretary; of course, maybe we are going to do away with the federal Department of Education; which would be fantastic.
Congratulations. For some they need to be on the other side of the coin to begin to understand what it all actually means.jedbartlet02;1824633 wrote:Remember when people gave Obama shit for "stacking" his admin with friends and campaign supporters?
Tell me what all this people have in common with Donald Trump:
Newt Gingrich
Rudy Guiliani
Ann Coulter
Ben Carson
Steve Bannon
Linda McMahon
Chris Christie
Yeah, I saw that.Con_Alma;1824716 wrote:Blame the new transition coordinator, VP elect.

Okay, then I agree with you. I'm glad he's not going to be in the Cabinet.sleeper;1824710 wrote:He was asked at the debate, as a doctor, his opinion of vaccinations. There's one study, a study which the researcher came out and said it was an awful study, that shows a link between autism and vaccines. Ben Carson had an opportunity to crush this harmful idea and he completely failed.

We already have a climate change denier non-scientist leading the EPA and an anti-Semitic white nationalist as Chief of Staff. Why not go for the trifecta of morons in office?
