Relative talent AND circumstance. Iowa doesn't have close to the talent of OSU or UM...it means nothing when they get on the field. Leach's teams at Tech never had as much talent as OU or UT, but they competed with them every few years. WSU lost to EWU at the beginning of the year and everyone chuckled, but EWU is probably a middle/bottom tier power 5 school, so it's not that bad of a loss.

It wasn't so much that Wazzou "had a chance", the 6-point spread says they did...but they aren't "horrible." If they are horrible, then probably every team except 15-20 around the country are also horrible.

Did you just try to justify losing to a FCS team?

Washington State has 4 losses, one of them coming to a FCS team. I'm sorry buike, but they are not a good team. And beating them is not a good win.

There was a reason Washington St was like 7-1 or 8-1 and only ranked like 22nd

I read that Herman told them he was leaning toward Texas, so LSU pulled the trigger and picked Orgeron.

I would have been shocked if Herman would have chosen LSU if given the choice between the two programs.

Herman = John Cooper. I don't think there's a enough talk about the fact he went 5-3 in conference losing to SMU, Memphis and Navy. Just confusing considering they shut down Mayfield and Jackson, but get lit up by those teams I see him losing a lot of bad games that cost him great seasons at Texas

That may be true, but with his ability to recruit, he's gonna start pulling in all the talent that Texas has been losing to Baylor, TCU, A&M, and even Houston in a couple cases. The talent on the Texas roster is gonna go through the roof in the next few seasons, and when he has that kind of talent, he's gonna be really good. You have to remember that he has only been a part of like 2 recruiting cycles at a place like Houston. They're not overflowing with talent right now, and they've dealt with a good bit of injuries this year, so they're still susceptible to some losses like that.

LSU was nothing but a bargaining chip to up Texas' offer.

I will say ...good for Orgeron. Filled in at USC and went 6-2 and now 5-2 for LSU. He's probably an elite rah rah coach that has a couple 9-3 years and then a 6-6 and get ran out of town

Washington State had 2 losses, one to an FCS team. Then they lost to Colorado. They were ranked where they should have been. An indictment on them being bad is an indictment on the entire Pac 12, because they have steamrolled through that league except for Washington and Colorado.

Eastern Washington is a good FCS team. I compared Washington State to Iowa, if that's what you want to call a "good team." Do you disagree? Iowa lost to North Dakota State, who is about even with EWU.

Seeing that PJ Fleck is headed to Purdue.

Herman is a done deal to Texas.

Seems like a bad move for Fleck.

Could honestly be a stepping stone to ND in a year or 2

I agree with that. He should have stayed another year at western and waited for either the ND job or Oregon to open up. Or any other big time program.

Why would ND or Oregon, who have both recently played for a national championship in the last 5 years, hire a young coach from Western Michigan?

Fleck had to go to a Purdue to get a bigger offer. That's how it works.

Sometimes in coaching you have to strike when the iron is hot. Purdue isnt that great of a job, but maybe he feels that this is as good of an offer as he is going to get at this point.

Going to Purdue is baffling. Just setting yourself to lose all stock. Then again, maybe the money and big gig is all he wants, and he certainly will get big cash at Purdue. Lots of power 5 jobs open or will be coming open, and I'd think a 13-0 season could get you attention from any of those openings almost.

It was S&L. I compared WSU to Iowa. He just responded by saying WSU sucks. I never said it was untrue, but then so does Iowa and Nebraska. That's all.

Likely wanted to stay in the midwest where he has been recruiting already. I dont think it is a dead end place, but maybe even right now he wasnt getting much interest from other power 5 conference schools? Only he and his agent know for sure what calls he has been fielding and maybe Purdue is the best and he wanted to take a job while his team and his prospects are hot? If he waited and stayed and goes to 7-8 wins next year he isnt getting a power 5 job.
