I know he isn't an analyst but Colin Cowherd picked OSU to win. He is usually pretty critical of OSU in light of their recent struggles in the big games.

Just check on ESPN bowl mania. For the Ohio State, Iowa, and Wisconsin games, at least 69% of the nation picked the other team, and for the PSU-LSU game 54% picked LSU. So the nation thought all 4 would lose and had 3 of them as heavy underdogs and all 4 won. If you picked 4 wins you were in the far minority.

I agree with you they didn't suck. If people from Michigan want to swing from Bret Bielema's nutsack for beating an average Miami team, good for them. Why are OSU fans so defensive about how the Big Ten is perceived?

ok, I'm glad you know me so well. I'll remind you this is a thread filled with buckeye fans who are telling the media to "suck it" because the conference went 4-3 in one bowl season. Seems there is a lot of insecurity here.

I don't get why people get so upset about the media being on the Big Ten about their bowl record.

The Big Ten posted all of TWO winning bowl seasons in the last decade, 2002 and this year. Somewhere between 2002 now they had a break even bowl season at 3-3(2004 season?).
Any conference that gets slapped around in bowls as much as the Big Ten did over the last decade has earned the negative media.
Are they supposed to apologize for them when they suck ass in bowls year-after-year?
4-3 is a solid bowl season but good bowl seasons have to happen more than twice a decade to get any real respect from the media(and the fans).
Especially when there is another conference out there that keeps winning national championships with different teams.

Hats off to the Big 10. I'm not really into cheering for the conference as a whole like our fellow SEC jockswingers, but its good to see the Big 10 show up in their bowl games this year. I really hope this opens the eyes of the MANY doubters.

It does feel good to have the Big 10 finish well in the bowl season, and in the BCS.

I don't think there is any question that those of us who have been fans of the Big Ten over the years are very happy with the outcome of this year's Bowl Games. Every team represented the conference well and even those who eventually lost their games had a chance to win right to the last stages of the game. Maybe this season will mark the beginning of a resurgence of respect for the conference. You know there was a time when the Big Ten used to be one of the most feared conferences in existence. Perhaps the worm turned a little this season?

Last night on ESPN they showed that the Big 10 was the 2nd conference to do so. Impressive either way.

Strong Strong Strong...Big 10 flexed and every other conference backed off. Even the 3 losses were impressive performances and their opponents knew they had been in a ball game. College football is cyclical and right now the Big 10 (and OSU in particular) are climbing the curve.

As long as the media has as much power as it does in determining WHO plays for the national title -- you'll continue to see people get really defensive when a whole conference is trashed based on NOTHING.

Bowl records, alone, do not tell the whole story of a conference's strength or weakness. For God's sake, did you know that USC has won something like 34 bowl games? Impressive, right? Well...maybe not so much since all but 6 have happened IN California.

Where a game is played, and how teams are slotted have far more to do with bowl game outcomes than conference strength overall. Sadly, the muddleheads in the media don't want to consider all that before spouting their venom, and trashing an entire conference.

If there was a playoff with games held at the home fields of higher seeds and/or neutral sites, I wouldn't care what the media fatheads say. But as long as they have as much power as they do in determining who gets to play, then yes, I'll be taking them to task at every opportunity.
