lol, it is listed as a 'TV drama', so you definitely got it pegged correctly

I steered clear of This is Us because I just assumed it was a chick flick, along the lines of Parenthood. Is it not?

It is along the lines of Parenthood, but I wouldn't classify it as a chick flick...btw, you prolly watch the Kardashians, amirite?

I guess you could say it's along the lines of the series Parenthood in that it revolves around one particular family, is cast brilliantly and is well written with constantly changing story lines, but 'chick flick'?!? Nope...sorry.

Oh I love drama's. This was just a little too much for me. I'm sure it's a really good show just not for me.

I was wrong. Wife and I watched first 2 episodes last night, it's legit.

The ending of the first episode has me hooked. Nice little curve ball I didn't see coming.

This is Us maybe one of the top 5 or 10 shows of all time.

The last show I REALLY thought was close to this excellent was Parenthood, before that all the way back to The Wonder Years.

This Is Us is probably better than Parenthood and on par with The Wonder Years.

Seriously best show by far on TV, but do NOT start watching now, you HAVE to start on episode 1, HUGE cliffhanger that sets up the whole show...don't go looking for a synopsis or that will ruin it as well.

The first episode will hook you, just go watch it...you will be like "WTF???" near the end of the first episode.

The first episode hooks you, and you won't be let down. The whole series so far has been really good.

Best show on sitcom television? Or best show on tv period?

I highly doubt it's better than some of the premium tv shows out there right now.

That's how I felt from seeing commercials for it. Just too much of the "family values; for the feelz; normal families going through live and all its trials" vibe for my interests, when I prefer stuff with action and intrigue.

But I'm a person who lost a lot of interest in Dexter throughout the first season because of how much it focused on the soap opera "I'm a sociopath killer...so watch me try to have normal(ish) relations with my girlfriend, my sister and my co-workers, so they don't know how screwed up I really am" stuff at the expense of him being a killer who hunted down other killers, so I don't know how aligned my tastes are with the general public, lol.

I have watched a lot of the premium series from Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, etc and yes, while the production/spec fx are better on premium channel series, the story/weaving of story lines in This Is Us is better.

And I thoroughly enjoyed Sopranos, and at least the first two seasons of GoT.

yup
Best way to put it, Sixth Sense ish, as in no one saw it coming. Although about 30 seconds to 1 minute before it was revealed in episode 1 I did pause it and tell the wife and kids "um...I think I just figured out 'X'". And was right.

My wife picked up on it before I did in the final couple of minutes. She's a lot more observant than I am haha

Has anyone watched Ripper Street? Just came across it on Netflix. It was on BBC America and I guess it's done now. Takes place during/after the Jack the Ripper murders. Gonna check it out today.

We recently started watching Parks & Rec again. We just started season 3 yesterday. Ron Swanson is the greatest tv comedy character of all-time, IMO. By a lot.

I've been doing the same. The Snake Juice episode may be my favorite. (Or anything with Jean-Ralphio)

I almost put a picture of breakfast food in my new office solely because of Ron Swanson. GOAT.
