This June, I'll be redoing 1/2 my basement,while adding another bedroom downstairs. It's a ranch that has 1 full and 1 half bath upstairs. My problem downstairs is, I need an up-flow toilet to connect to the pipes. All the info online I've found, is that they aren't cheap. Is it worth it to spend 700-1000 on a toilet alone, or do I just scratch the toilet part, and make them use upstairs restroom? Keep in mind, trying to stay on a budget, not a ton of extra cash to throw around.

If it's me, I'd plan on adding that toilet down there. Maybe you don't do it right now...but I'd try to get it there and have the plans drawn up to get it there.

I say this because we are in a house that has bathroom issues. To me, it's better to have those plans and have the ability to get it done instead of not planning for it and missing out on it later on.

whats the cost of digging into the floor and getting into the sewer drains?

You can tear up the floor and put in an ejection pit. The pump and pits usually run about 500. You can buy normal bathroom fixtures if you go this route.

If it were me, I'd look into the cost of digging into the foundation and tying the drain into your existing stack. Those up-flow toilets get me very nervous and I'd rather add in the toilet the regular way and know that I'm not going to have issues a few years down the road.

I have installed this one in over 20 houses and have never had a problem with it. It costs a little more but it is well worth the extra money. Also I am assuming your line comes in through the side of your houses foundation and not under your basement floor/footer. If it comes in under the floor, I would just tie into existing lines

That was my take on it 12 years ago when we had contractor friend of ours put in a bathroom in our basement.

He said it was fairly simple to dig into the concrete floor and run the drains for the toilet, sink and, shower drain side by side and tie them into the existing soil stack below the floor level, but well above the bend to go out to the main sewer line. When it was installed, he patched the floor back neatly, and it has been very nice to have. No pump or grinder to worry about, and no other issues since. Well worth the money spent.
