I am interested in hearing the story on how Schwartz was let go.

I can't really comment on how good either Mack or Schwartz is or whether they are worth the money they received.
But, are the Browns just going to sit back and do nothing in FA? Are we going to wait until all the premier players are picked up and then sign a bunch of Tier 2 players to big contracts? Does Cleveland really expect to hit on draft picks this year to make the team substantially better?
It seems like we've resigned to the fact that mediocrity is the end goal and not winning. This is just another frustration from a Brown's fan.

Letting Schwartz walk is inexcusable.

How did the first day of free agency go in Cleveland? Here is how it went: The Browns lost three free agents (T Mitchell Schwartz, WR Travis Benjamin, C Alex Mack) and did not release quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Browns had an offer to Schwartz but pulled it. No biggie on Mack as the Browns offered more and Benjamin got way overpaid.

Seems like a lot of WRs getting overpaid today.

No clue but if I were to guess, I'd guess Schwartz probably told them he wasn't returning but we'll probably never find out.like_that;1785443 wrote:Yeah I know this part, but I want to know why they pulled it.

I have a feeling we are going to be in for some uglier football this season than even we're used to.
Think we can thank ass wipes like Farmer, Banner, Holmgren/Heckert, etc, along with Haslam, for setting the table for this shit. Brown & Co are probably going to be very frugal but that's not going to cut it when previous regimes pissed in the pool. They are probably going to have to overpay in a stupid fashion to even get the scraps to come here. Guys like Mack, Schwartz, etc probably said "fuck this" after some of the baffling stupidity over the last few years and GTFO.
It fucking sucks. This town is dying for a winner on the gridiron and it's like freaking Groundhog Day.

No great loss on this one. Had the one good season but then couldn't stay healthy. Easily replaceable. The loss of the RT, of all of them, hurts the most.iclfan2;1785455 wrote:Gipson gone too...

These guys are exactly who I thought they were.
No one pisses away good will and credibility with the fan base faster than a new Browns regime.
If we ever did end up with a regime that ended up being even half as smart as they thought they were we'd rip off multiple Super Bowls quite quickly.

I don't think the new guys have established any goodwill to piss away yet.IggyPride00;1785468 wrote:These guys are exactly who I thought they were.

The only guy I'm upset at losing is Schwartz. Mack would have been nice to keep, but Browns did what they could thanks for dumb fuck farmer. Schwartz tho, is inexcusable. Not to get all iQQy, but I've already lost faith.

Makes me think Haslam gave them the nod for a total tear down and rebuild.
Id have kept Schwartz because he's still young, and probably tried to get a #1 for Joe Thomas. But I feel for Wentz\Goff now, they are gonna get destroyed.

I think you hit the nail on the head with your first comment. This is going to be "Money Ball." They are probably going to stay young, let the players grow with the franchise, and resign them before they get to their 2nd contract. As fans, it will suck for us because we're in for a lot of bad football over the next few years.HighRoller74;1785479 wrote:Makes me think Haslam gave them the nod for a total tear down and rebuild.

As far as your second comment, after seeing the Schwartz contract, it's a real head scratcher that they didn't try to retain him. KC paid him a little over $6 million/yr.
With the "getting young" comment, I now think that all bets are off as to whether they keep JT & Haden around.

If Wentz (or whoever they pick at 2) ends up being a stud, it'll be fine. It's so easy to turn it around in the NFL in one season if you have a good QB.BR1986FB;1785515 wrote:I think you hit the nail on the head with your first comment. This is going to be "Money Ball." Now if Wentz is a bust, yes the next several years will suck.

the next 3 years for Cleveland fans look like they are going to be really painful. I really feel for you poor bastards.
anyone know what the deal was with Schwartz' brother's tweet? something about the browns negotiations being nonsensical.

It's been painful my entire life lol I can do another few years of shitty records as long as I know we have a QB for the future. And the FO seems like they know how to build a winning team behind that QB.
