I doubt it, and if he is that would be fucking absurd considering the guys who didn't go in unanimous.Ironman92;1773927 wrote:Jeter will be first unanimous

No he won't. Trout is the only guy I can think of who might be when the time comes.

That will be 20+ more years....a lot can happen in that time.Laley23;1773981 wrote:No he won't. Trout is the only guy I can think of who might be when the time comes.

I say Trout because he is past the steroid issue, 5 tool, and might break all kinds of records if he stays healthy. I mean, he may be talked about among the greats it all categories of baseball, not just power/speed/average etc. Only a handful have ever had that, and he started being this good as a rookie at like 19. I just don't see anyone else who would have a shot at unanimous.

He did not start being anywhere near that good at 19....but point takenLaley23;1773985 wrote:Not sure a closer will ever get 100%.

I get ironman's approach on this. He is looking for a guy that every member of the media LOVES. The way these guys vote, if a player hurt their feelz they won't vote for him. Baseball writers are a bunch of crybabies. It's like the time Mo Vaughn won MVP over Albert Belle. Complete joke.

That was deplorable. For the most part, sportswriters are the worst....but the old baseball guys voting no on Greg Maddux because old times voted no for Mays, Aaron and others. They shouldn't have any so whatsoever.like_that;1774039 wrote:I get ironman's approach on this. He is looking for a guy that every member of the media LOVES. I think they get this stigma about 1st ballot. They vote no because they don't think someone should be 1st ballot and then would vote yes the next year. Of course, there is no next year, cause they get 95%+ of the vote. I wonder if someone like Maddux would've been 100% on his second year??

That's why I hate all hall of fames. You are either a hall of famer or not. Making a candidate wait an extra year does nothing. What did the candidate do in that year to help improve his case? Absolutely nothing, because he isn't playing. I think all HOFs should have a system where you either get in the first time or you don't. You can have a class of 15 one year, and a class of 1 the next.Laley23;1774055 wrote:I think they get this stigma about 1st ballot. Scott Boras did it again.
Got Chris Davis 7/$161 when there was no market this off-season for Davis at anywhere near that number.
How this guy is continually able to get teams to bid against themselves and his mystery teams just astounds me.
They would have been much better off doing something at 4/5 years with Cespedes or Upton at around 100 million and using that other $60 million for pitching.

Upton to the Tigers.
6/$132.
Wow. His market looked like it had dried up. That's a ton of money for him.

Amazing how a bum like Joe Blanton gets a guaranteed deal for 4M. The Dodgers. I guess the goal will be to just avoid using him unless it's an emergency.

Blanton was good in long relief for the Pirates. As a starter, he's been a failure, but in shorter doses, he's shown the ability to be a contributor.Azubuike24;1776743 wrote:Amazing how a bum like Joe Blanton gets a guaranteed deal for 4M. That's my point. He'll probably pitch like 40 innings. And has a history of getting shelled. Got 4M.

Nats looking at Cespedes lol Dusty gets handed some crazy talented teams. They can get Kershaw, Trout and Goldschmidt and still wouldn't win it all.

Which is crazy. If he goes off, with the weak OF class next year (i think i heard that on the effectively wild podcast) he could get even more.

Have no fear, Reds fans! Bronson Arroyo was in Cincinnati throwing for the Reds yesterday. This season might be saved after all!
