.223 or 5.56 Ammo and Weapon

When buy a AR15 IMO the NATO 5.56 is the better purchase.
The .223 and 5.56 Ammo are identical the same round, different is in the combustion
Most newer popular brand AR 15 5.56 can fire both the NATO 5.56 and .223 Ammo, however the AR 15 .223 can not fire 5.56 ammo
It is always recommended to fire the proper ammo for the weapon designed.
I’m not an expert on rifles, however doing research into purchase AR15 this is something I found out and though it was good to pass along.

^^^That is correct... Much more pressure generated within the chamber by a 5.56 round, so you need a weapon designed for it. A rifle chambered for 5.56 can fire the less explosive 2.23....but a gun chambered for 2.23 should not fire a 5.56.

I pick and choose my weapons with a great deal of research and fact finding info.

That's pretty interesting about 5.56 vs .223. I always knew an ar could fire both, but I didn't know you shouldn't fire 5.56 in something designed for .223

What does anyone think of this as a concealed carry option? Chambered in 410.

Most of the conceal carry weapon brand manufacture are making small type carry weapon with more punch and more rounds per mag. The Sig now has a .45 6 rounds 3.5 barrel conceal carry pistol sweet weapon (top five on my want to own list)

The shot gun is feared and terrifying weapon .. without question both in the military and home protection. Tunnel rats used shot guns, I preferred my .45 M3 Grease Gun .. wish I had that weapon now for old memories.

410 Derringer two shot is uncontrollable I would think, plus most encounters are within 15 to 18 feet, so the scatter ratio would not be that much (note: I’m not a rifle expert basic knowledge) would not be that effective, at 15-18 feet inexperienced individual misses the target anyways. So IMO the additional ammo back up is important factor. One mag 6 rounds in the weapon and one mag 6 more round in my pocket or belt.. can never have enough ammo in a fire fight.

It would be a nice as a ankle weapon for additional fire power if you like carrying more than just one weapon..

I can't imagine firing two .410 shells at the same time with one hand in that small of a gun. I've shot one out of a Judge with two hands, which I believe is a full frame revolver and it kicked like a mule. I didn't find shooting THAT a very pleasant experience, I can imagine what it would be like to fire it from a derringer. That said, I know people do, but probably this would not be a weapon of choice for the casual shooter.

From this video, the recoil doesn't seem to be terrible. (Although their Quickdraw competition doesn't seem overly safe to the shooter on the left...)

When I was younger my dad had a Derringer. I think it was only a .38 and I have no idea what happened to it but I always thought it was cool.

I've never really looked into them, but it looks like it only has one trigger, but it fires one round at a time?...moreover, it looks like the 'barrels' for different calibers are interchangeable, and you can swap them out with a few turns of an allen wrench. Cool.

I currently only have a small pocket carry style pistol (Kel Tec Pf9) and it kicks like crazy. My wife doesn't enjoy shooting it (I.E. she can't and creid after 2 shots because she couldn't control the kick), so I'm looking for a more sturdy 9mm or 45. I like the Springfield's so that is my first option. I am also looking for a shotgun or rifle. I don't really have a need for it, but I'd like to get into hunting (deer and/or birds) so I would like to get the remington or mossburg field and deer combos.

for my wife I got her a Sig 238. .380 pocket carry
she loves it. She can pull the rail back very easy, trigger pull perfect, distance from grip and trigger great for small hand and the kick is controllable for her. I liked it when it first came out I bought two .... Now I want to get the sAme small conceal carry .45 from Sig. Love .45 cal

^^^That's a show piece right there! My brother in law has one..great lever action, solid, heavy hexagonal barrel...shoots any type of .22 ammo including magnum.... Henry makes a great looking and great shooting gun.

I think Belly is right, a .380 may be more appropriate for your wife...at least until she gets more comfortable shooting. One thing that will help...if you get her lessons. Proper grip and finger placement goes along way in controlling and beinbg comfortable. Look for "women's classes" at the local range, and STAY OUT OF THE WAY.

Here's something interesting that I've been toying with for a while...Ruger had a large frame revolver (GP100) that is chambered in .327 federal magnum. The gun is interesting because not only does it give magnum muzzle speeds and power without the recoil, but you can use any .32 ammunition in it, which cuts the cost down when you want to shoot it for practice. (also better for the ladies). I balked at the price... $800+.

Good news...Ruger has come with 2 new models chambered in .327 fed magnum....a lighter weight revolver (SP100), and also a LCR carry model. I'm not 100% sure if you can use any .32 ammo like the bigger gun, but I don't see why not.
...any the really good news is the price point of $600 maybe even less. Not bad for a revolver, especially one so versatile. Might be a good alternative for concealed carry for the ladies...even shooting .32 S more effective than carrying a .22.

Im not a revolver fan of conceal carry, I love old style revolvers but for carry I prefer more slender of a feel of a pistol, plus the extra mag is easy to carry ...

I don't carry Belly. I'm more of a casual shooter, but I've been around a lot of gun guys who do. I really haven't felt the need (like Monty LOL)...
or had the time to properly train to do so. Guys have told me that permit training is one thing , training to use your weapon in a crisis is another. That might change as I approach/ enter retirement and have more time. Also. Mrs.Hits has more interest in developing her skills and wanting to carry. She's comfortable shooting our Walther .22 ... But is uncomfortable even with the .380 with her wrist tendonitis.That is what intrigues me about this new Ruger LCR.... She could shoot any .32 ammo she was comfortable with... Gun would fit easily in a purse... And is reliable/ dependable. If I wanted to use it, I could load the more powerful magnum rounds. Most of the guns I have bought for our personal use/home defense are guns that all members of my family can use. SonHits like his bigger guns and I've shoot/ shot them but they are not mine.

Regarding your preference to carry a semi, obviously I can't speak to the comfort of carrying a semi vs. a revolver, But if I would carry, or for a choice for the Mrs. Revolvers are pretty dependable and easy to use...no slide to rack, fumbling with safeties, light trigger pull and inadvertant shots that can cause problems during a actual crisis. No FTFs or FTEs..... This ruger is a six-shooter....carries an extra round compared to .38 specials and .357's. JMHO, and I'm sure there are plenty of reasons to carry a semi, too.
