So say Oklahoma State loses 3 games. Is that a good win for Baylor? What if Oklahoma loses 4 games? Is that a good win for Baylor? What if Temple loses 2 and they are to unbeaten Memphis and 1-loss Notre Dame?

I'm not arguing Memphis. I'm really not. I'm arguing that including Baylor...is ridiculous, when their WHOLE RESUME is going to be 3 wins. And I'll bet that only 1 of those wins ends up being a team even ranked in the playoff top 15.

I'm not at all advocating Memphis in the top 10 over any other unbeaten or possible conference champs. But Baylor simply hasn't done anything...

I could see it. They would more than likely have to beat Memphis twice as well. Would they get in? No but they would be easily top 10. Which as an ND fan I would love that lol

I just want the answer as to why 13-0 Memphis is irrelevant but 12-0 Baylor is considered a playoff lock. Not anyone else, just Memphis vs Baylor.

I heard Long say repeatedly that conference affiliation doesn't matter but then says in the end a conference championship is very important. With 5 big conferences, how does conference affiliation not matter?

Also, another possible wrench in the system, IMO, if a 1 loss Florida beats an undefeated LSU in the SECCG, will LSU have any gripes outside of not being a conference champ? They did beat Florida before and would have better wins to show for it(Ole Miss, Florida, Alabama, A&M, Miss St compared to FSU, Georgia and Ole Miss).

Doesn't really matter though, as I think Houston and Memphis are both better and won't lose to Temple.

I agree. I was actually surprised at how well temple played Saturday. Better than I thought they would be. Even though the game should have been over in the first half if it wasn't for dumb redzone turnovers

Conference affiliations will ALWAYS matter. You play in a power conference, you get he benefit of the doubt. You don't, you will get left out.

It contradicts what the committee says on ESPN or to the public. You don't actually know how they think behind those doors. And if last year said anything, it's that conference affiliation matters (Baylor and TCU being left out over OSU despite probably having better "numbers").

Also, Notre Dame has always been treated differently.

They had their own damn clause in the BCS formula.

memphis is the only mid major with a shot. They win out and enough crazy shit happens, they have a shot.

My bad if I misinterpreted. I took your post as saying that even if Baylor wins out, they'd be on the outside looking in. I don't think that's the case. I think if they win out, they are in. But I would say they're fucking because they won't end up undefeated. Worst thing that could happen to the Big 12 is Baylor dropping the games to OK State and OU, but beating TCU. Which would basically guarantee no Big 12 representation in the CFP.

I think the reason why ND is #5 is because, if the consensus is that Clemson is #1, ND proved they were basically on the same level as Clemson. The fact they lost at Clemson...at night...in a hurricane...and had a shot at a 2pt conversion that would have tied it at the end...gives the impression that Clemson is only slightly better than ND. Right or wrong, I think that's why ND is so high.

Now cue the cracks about ND's best win being a close loss and 10 year contract extensions...

I don't have a problem with ND at 5. But I do think it'll be tough for them to get in even if they go without a loss. They'll need some teams to lose to set it up nicely for them. Like the big 12 scenario above where TCU loses to Baylor who loses to OU. And then OSU to beat Michigan state but then lose to Michigan.

But lol @ people complaining about where Baylor is located. Give me a break. Their schedule is awful and they just lost their starting qb. They're right where they should be.

Nobody mentioned Temple as a playoff contender. My mention of them was more of, what if they go 10-3, losses to ND, Memphis and Memphis in the AAC title game. That's still a quality win. A win that is as good or better than Oklahoma or Oklahoma State would be...

I understand. I read the thread. I was simply adding to your posts with my thoughts. I wasn't contesting them.

Depending on how Memphis finishes....a win against them could very well be a stronger win than what Ok or OK St has in front on them.

It's cool. And I know I'm bringing up a lot of what ifs. There's going to be a lot more clarity after this weekend.
