It might be 60 degrees next Wednesday, I'd like to get an outdoor run in soon.

Was just given all the P90X stuff last night. Noticed that the guy I got it from included bands. If I have bands, and one set of 30 lb. dumbbells, what else will I need? Is it possible to only use that stuff? If so, I can do it at home.

For God's sake, be careful with the bands, they will snap. Make sure it is a heavy duty band. You should be ok, I would not expect someone starting out to be needing much more than 30 for lawnmowers or alternate bicep curls.ernest_t_bass;1098830 wrote:Was just given all the P90X stuff last night. The dumbbells will be light for some exercises and heavy for others, but i'd say 30lbs is just fine, just follow the instructions and do reps until the last few burn.
I've never used bands like they do in the videos so yeah, just make sure they're not too warn out.

This may have already been brought up and discussed, and I apologize for not going back far enough to find it, but has anyone downloaded the P90X app for the iPhone yet? If you have, how is it? Is there audio & video?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Here's a stupid question. What is the difference between the "Classic/Double/Lean" workouts, and what would be suggested for a semi-in-shape person?

Classic is the regular 90 program. Doubles means after a month you do a cardio workout in the morning and then the scheduled workout later in the day. Lean is for women.ernest_t_bass;1100319 wrote:Here's a stupid question. What is the difference between the "Classic/Double/Lean" workouts, and what would be suggested for a semi-in-shape person?

personally, i thought the yoga and kempo were pretty gay but really liked the lifting workouts and plyo. The abs routine is pretty good too.ernest_t_bass;1100331 wrote:Classic it is. Maybe double in the summer.

Agree that kempo was pathetic. Find something else cardiowise to do that day. Yoga was way too long, find a 20-30 routine to do if you want to keep flexible.Raw Dawgin' it;1100334 wrote:personally, i thought the yoga and kempo were pretty gay but really liked the lifting workouts and plyo. That being said, Insanity Plyo in the books today, late afternoon run then shoulders and arms tomorrow. Yippie!

I've switched it around where I'm doing the two upper body P90X workouts along with a third day of kettlebells with tabata sprints and walking for the cardio. My knees are pretty much toast from the squatting I did with Wendler 5/3/1.Raw Dawgin' it;1100334 wrote:personally, i thought the yoga and kempo were pretty gay but really liked the lifting workouts and plyo. If walking counts as cardio, I'm money.BR1986FB;1100352 wrote:I've switched it around where I'm doing the two upper body P90X workouts along with a third day of kettlebells with tabata sprints and walking for the cardio. My knees are pretty much toast from the squatting I did with Wendler 5/3/1.

I just do it as a change of pace because my goals are to not lose muscle. Too much cardio (distance running, etc) will strip muscle off like nobodies business. I walk and do the tabatas (sprint for 20 seconds, rest for 10, sprint, rest, etc) because they will shed fat without losing muscle. If you have a lot of weight/fat to drop I'd probably recommend a more drastic form of cardio.ernest_t_bass;1100423 wrote:If walking counts as cardio, I'm money.

I finish my first month of insanity tomorrow - definitely looking forward to longer workouts.
How many calories do you guys eat a day for your workouts? I'm pretty sure i'm around 2k a day give or take.

Biggest problem area is belly fat (see my Dan Marino pic... or ask the obsessed COA) and ass fat. When I gain weight, that's where it goes.BR1986FB;1100428 wrote:I just do it as a change of pace because my goals are to not lose muscle. Nowhere near enough. I should be taking in close to 4000 just to maintain but it's usually 2000-2300.Raw Dawgin' it;1100436 wrote:How many calories do you guys eat a day for your workouts? I'm pretty sure i'm around 2k a day give or take.

I'm 5'11, 200 lbs. I was on the plus side of 210 before basketball season. Two years ago (when I was a 12 beers minimum alcoholic) I was up to the same weight (210ish) and quit drinking for a year, right before basketball season. I dropped to 185, and dropped fast. Tried the same thing this basketball season (however I wasn't drinking like that), and have not dropped the weight.BR1986FB;1100478 wrote:How much overweight?

How active are you? Do you work out regularly? Walk regularly, etc?

These last two weeks I have refereed 5 basketball games per week. Each game is roughly 2 miles running.BR1986FB;1100526 wrote:How active are you? Do you work out regularly? Walk regularly, etc?

Then, I'll be honest...if you can do the three P90X weight workouts and mix in a couple of days of walking for 45 minutes along with your basketball games, you should shed weight.
Eating is the key. There's an old saying that "washboard abs are made in the kitchen." Now you may not be looking for a 6 pack but you get my drift.

Assuming that you are not (dare I say it) out of breath during a varsity game, you'll be fine to start classic.ernest_t_bass;1100529 wrote:These last two weeks I have refereed 5 basketball games per week. Each game is roughly 2 miles running.

My shortness of breath is from anxiety. Some times (if I've been thinking about a big upcoming game for a while) I'll be short of breath on the court.Sonofanump;1100564 wrote:Assuming that you are not (dare I say it) out of breath during a varsity game, you'll be fine to start classic.

Diet is my biggest problem right now. Mon-Fri, I'm pretty good about two Slim-Fast shakes breakfast/lunch, but at dinner I get my fair share.BR1986FB;1100557 wrote:Then, I'll be honest...if you can do the three P90X weight workouts and mix in a couple of days of walking for 45 minutes along with your basketball games, you should shed weight.
