He has an estimated current net worth of $450M...so this is a 1% contribution...still impressed? Me? Not so much. Another Leboner publicity grab.

It does not matter what he is worth...this is great for many kids and LeBron is doing a great thing for these kids. The thing I like even more is the kids do have to do something to earn it (not sure what that is yet). But, I like the fact that there is some accountability for the kids too. Great job LeBron!

Well, I applaud it. U of Akron needs it too.

Major hits they've taken recently -- dropping baseball, keeping football (and spending more and more on it), and closing its EJ Thomas Hall (their theater building). I'm sure there's more, but that's what I know off the top of my head. They just are trying to trim the fat places due to financial burdens on the institution.

I honestly don't know how anyone can dislike Lebron as a player or a person. The Decision was handled in a shitty way, but the work he does with the Lebron James Family Foundation (founded in 2004) is fantastic.

I would think that 99% of people in his shoes would do the same thing. Not impressed. Giving money from people like him isnt a great thing. I am more impressed when I see rich people GIVE THEIR TIME. THats more valuable to someone like him than a couple million.

Do some research. He is heavily involved in his charity and many others. It's not just monetary.

I would challenge you to give away 1% of your net worth, but 1% of $10 wouldn't get much... just a cheeseburger or chicken nuggets.

Gotta love people hating on someone being philanthropic and helping people in their hometown. God, it has to suck to be such miserable fucks all the time.

Huge props to Lebron for this. I don't care if it's 1% or 100% of his net worth...he didn't have to do it, but he did. So hat's off to him for that.

Yes. When so many people are asking "what can you do for me?" LeBron is actually making a difference in people's lives here. He didn't have to do shit.

You have an estimated net worth of $45, none of which you can afford to give to your kids, contributing to your dead-beat dad status. What exactly is the point of your critique? That someone who is actually successful is actually giving back?

Maybe if you weren't a dead-beat you could get a job and give back more than 1% so you can be a better person than Lebron. Until then, Lebron is 100x the man you are.

Edit: Your net worth fluctuates depending on the number of cases of Genessee Ice you've spent your handouts on in any given 2 week period.

1100 now and another possible 1200 over the next 4 years.
Anything I've ever said bad about LBJ, I recant.
Role model.... Drop the mic.
The scholarships are worth $38k, so simple math tells me 1100 scholarships would be $41.8 million. 1200 more would be another $45.6 million.

I'm still impressed.

That's assuming every child completes the requirements and goes all 4 years. Given what we know about inner city children, $4M total cost is more than optimistic.
